My business is too small to be subject to normal regulations of larger business (even of so called &quot;small businesses&quot;) so I feel like I can fly under the radar so to speak, as can others like me who work for themselves and don't employ others. On the downside, there are only so many hours in a day that I can bill for so my income cap/scalability is limited in that regard, but I have written three ebooks that are starting to sell. Hopefully I can scale the business up with the ebooks, rather than hiring other people in order to take on more clients. The tax breaks are ENORMOUS for people in my position.</p> <p>My best advice is to work for yourself. But it does take WORK to get it off the ground. I don't know squat about martial arts really, but one day I was hanging out with a friend and she wanted to pop into the karate studio we were walking by (the owner had retired and sold it to a student). I gather it was the one her kid had gone to back in the day. Oddly enough, he said they were having their best year ever. Go figure. But they've only got the one location to pay rent on, maybe three is where things are tricky for these folks? </p> <p>The sad thing is that anything that isn't pure survival, like food, can be cut from someone's budget these days.
