It all depends on how in tune you are with the transiting planet, I think. I'm one of those people that feel transits from waaaaay out there. But I get relief almost immediately once it's past exact.
Since my Saturn is part of a stellium, I counted my SR from when t. Saturn started hitting the leading planet (sun) until it was comfortably past the trailing planet (Saturn itself). Which may not be exactly kosher, but that's when I certainly felt it.

If you're just now starting to track transits, it's sometimes helpful to start with your chart ruler. If it's slow-moving planet, you might have to calculate backwards to when it changed houses, signs, or contacted a natal point and see if you can remember anything significant that happened and/or how you were feeling then. Doing this can give you a good reference point for how and when you start to "feel" transits, since most people are pretty sensitive to their ruling planet.
(Come to think of it, that would probably be helpful for anything but the moon. *rolls eyes @ self*)

There's a good article on transits at the astrowiki (here). It's pretty bare-bones, but there's enough meat to get you started.

According to Stephen Arroyo, it lasts 2.5 years around the date of the return. So if today was the date that Saturn returned to its natal position in your chart, it would have started about 1.25 years ago, and you'd still have about that much time left with it.

I think you would consider it 'on' from about 5' degrees away from it's natal position. But you may well notice it long before then. The effect is generally strongest when approaching the natal position and then starts to lessen as it moves past. But watch out for any retrograde motion back over the natal position, that can be even more potent in it's way.

My apologies if this has been asked already. A cursory search of old posts didn't show anything promising.

How exactly does one define the Saturn Return? I understand that it happens around 28-30 and it's the return of the planet Saturn to it's original spot on the natal chart but I'm wondering about the specifics. How long is one said to be going through a SR? Does it last the duration of the time Saturn enters the sign it was in natally until it leaves that sign? the time it enters the house it was in natally until it leaves that house?

Welcome Poeticleah! I am relatively new here too and also a Double with a moon. We can be VERY hard on ourselves as well as hard on others! I am so sorry to hear how much you have gone through. The hurt must be incredible. I will console you by saying you are NOT alone!! As a Scorpio with Mars also in I can spend a lot of time angry with someone and to forgive them will sometimes feel like I am trying to shed my skin and then maybe it's "rise from the ashes"? It takes a lot of self examination, punching pillows sometimes, in a situation such as yours of betrayal, sometimes getting feelings out on paper and then burning it. Oh and let's not forget the tears and plenty of kleenex! This will start the healing process. When the rumbling storm lifts and and you have pulled the lightening bolts out of your hair, sometimes you can see a glint of sun. I know for me since I am close to Sag I can forgive those who do merely stupid human things but for the really hurtful things that damage my "upset inner child" and I will add "wounded child", that always takes time and examination. And sometimes all you can do is chose to forgive, but not forget. And I have say I can relate with nutsymaclewis remarks on how we can sabotage our own selves very badly with our sting that was meant to be aimed outwardly. Oh yeah! Been there, DONE that!!Best wishes to you and hope that you can find some support and relief here fellow Scorp!

Forgiveness is the quintessential lesson for a Scorp. A certain sort of Scorp recognizes the power of shear will. I think this is a concern when Scorp doesn't act vengefully. Hold it in and calling it forgiveness creates a wishful curse directed towards the offender. Yup, suppressing your nature doesn't change it or make it go away. Can you change your nature? Should you? The only answer is if you choose to, it's an option.

Whenever I decide that I have to do something that I don't even think I can do, I look to my north node and it's aspects. O.k. so it's pretty astro-grade-school. Still it usually answers the HOW? question. Also the sign opposite your sun sign is Gemini - famous for changing their minds. Choosing what to change on the other hand...

Plenty of great advice on here from every one, Notatirem's words are golden on this one.

My Fiance's SR was this last year (Saturn in Virgo). Mine was just before that (Saturn in Leo) I believe. My Divorce was finalized during my SR. For him, his Father lost his battle with cancer this last year. We've struggled with his Mother and her financial and drug problems. We bought a house and got engaged as well. Saturn is now moved in Libra (my Sun sign) and TBH I'm not worried about the fact that he and I are getting married later this year. I think that we've done a HUGE amount of developing and maturing over the last 2 years together (it will be 3 years together when we marry).

Are my lessons from Saturn over? Hardly. I know that. But he and I have come out of both our SR TOGETHER very strong in our relationship. We were THERE for each other through the tough times (well my toughest times were well after my divorce finalized, which is when he came in) and we helped each other get through it. It was hard. There were times when I wanted to throw my hands up and leave b/c it was so difficult - not between US but just the whole situation with his Mother was gut-wrenching on a daily basis for about 6 months this last year. But I passed that test. Having ended a marriage where our families were a HUGE part of the problem, that was a very big test for me and I feel like I passed it fairly well. I DIDN'T walk away, ya know? In the end, we both stuck by it and our love has grown stronger and more real as a result.

I'm cool with that if that is what Saturn had to teach me. Thanks Saturn!

"I have Saturn in my 7th. So commitment, stability and old school this-is-how-its-done-officially is totally romantic to me."

I have a Cap dsc, and I wouldn't say it was romantic, but I definitely wanted marriage for the legal aspects. I wasn't so concerned about the relationship because I felt we would be solid either way, but I wanted the security of knowing I would be the first person the authorities would call if my beloved was injured and unconscious. The only romantic part to me is declaring your love and hope in front of those you care about who also care for you -- that is rather important to me. *smiles*

I don't think happy and Saturn are incompatible. Saturn gets a bad rap. I think happy and irresponsible are incompatible under Saturn's influence.

I certainly respect the idea not everyone chooses to marry. Freedom to make your own decisions is wonderful. But for me, being legally married was important.

I have Saturn in my 7th. So commitment, stability and old school this-is-how-its-done-officially is totally romantic to me. Your mileage may vary.
