Well, people seem to get upset if I leave the house without pants, but I could'nt care less...

Okay, joking aside, I'm hooked on my black stretchy yoga pants - but only when it's cold ! And my Dansko clogs, but again; this is only for dressing serious or to aviod freezing since I live in the mountains. I'm from S. Florida ( the Keys ), and prefer a tank and sarong w/ nice (beaded?) flip-flops and a SMASHING pedicure. Also, I usually never leave the house without some kind of hook earrings -- I've got a collection, with many made by me.

But truthfully, I try to wear the least amount of clothing I can get away with, in any situation; while paying attention to my grooming and the situation I'm headed into.

Leo/Libra/Virgo who loves colour and fashion, but HATES having to wear clothes !

All the old school punks I know couldn't give a crap what kids nowadays are doing because it doesn't have anything to do with what was happening 30 years ago, which to me, what about being yourself, DIY, not worrying about wearing the "right" clothes because no one had any money anyway, and not telling other people what to do because you couldn't give a crap about what other people thought about it anyway.

Jilly, isn't that what punk was all about, US vs. Them? It was "them" who labeled us punks. We were the only people who would hang around with each other, the outcasts. I always quote an old Sham 69 lyric,

"We're the people you don't want to know,

We go the places you don't want to go.

We're angels with dirty faces,

Angels with dirty faces,

Kids like me and you.."

Anyway, the Old School punks I know all love to poke fun at today's little kiddie punks who weren't even born when punk first broke. I often ask them, "what are you rebelling against, high interest rates on your credit card?" Ha. I tell them, kids of today listening to the punk of their parent's generation would be like me listening to MY father's music, and he liked Lawrence Welk and Barbershop Quartets. So go create your own NEW genre and quit despoiling ours. It was a short lived rebellion and not something you can replicate just by wearing a few punk fashions and listening to your Dad's old vinyl records.

depth, Charles just likes to put himself in an US vs THEM construct, seems like.

That would be like saying all these crunchy granola green people down at the co-op nowadays aren't hippies because they weren't at woodstock or something. Or the kids down at the Farm in Summetown aren't hippies.

I was a punk back then too & disagree. You can still be punk.

You can't "try to be a punk," you either were one or you weren't. If you were a disaffected youth in 1977, you were a punk. After 1982 or so, the scene died but the "old school punks" kept on being punks.

SaDiablo, I just checked online and apparently they started making the yellow thread Docs again. You have to order them online, they are now "Vintage" models being made after 1959 designs. Ooh they're expensive.

As a Taurus, I simply must have my Doc Martens shoes. In my youth, I was a punk rocker, we Old School Punks would not have a complete ensemble without Docs. They are suitable for stomping on the ground, like a good Taurus should. And of course, the only suitable Docs are the originals, black with "yellow thread," they stopped making them quite a while ago. You wear anything but yellow-thread Docs and you're just a poseur. My Docs are over 20 years old, which makes them older than most of the punk kiddies around these days. You wear your Docs, and a black leather jacket with a punk pin on the lapel, and you are always good to go. Right now my lapel has a faded, almost illegible pin I bought in 1978 that says "Sid Vicious - No Future." Oddly enough, I bought it just before Sid died.

Black turtlenecks. Sun Libra, Virgo Rising, Capricorn Moon, Scorpio Venus. But I definitely dress my Capricorn Moon, since my wardrobe is mainly black.
