While those losses are not in the category I will write of in short order I must say I feel sad for the loss but understand. Sometimes you need to move on and put energy where it will feed you - either real food or emotionally.

On the other hand I am waiting and hoping for the implosion of a number of tech news sites. They eat the original sources alive and build traffic out of either straight up lies or NO research and NO reporting of any original type. The day those sites begin to implode is the day I celebrate. Why? I'm part partner in a small, growing site, we consistently break news that other sites don't even grasp for 6 months to a year. One financial guy called the other week and asked for comment on a news bit floating amongst the popular sites and he was sent to the news item written A YEAR ago.

So while I feel sadness for some news lost. I feel little to no sadness for the hangers-on, copycats etc. I actually look forward to people valuing substance and original information again.

Maybe harsh thinking but I have that saturn/pluto thing natally. I guess I've always lived with that in my life. I HAVE to provide competence and HAVE to provide the real deal or I get cut for no obvious reason or for political waves, personal issues they have with someone competent.

Survival is a key theme right now. How wonderful of Jeff to pass the baton and refer his users to someone who still has their head and shoulders above the parapet.

He has bequeathed so much, and knowing the support and aknowledgement that you have gathered on this site, his dream lives on.

Astrologyblogger also quit business. Owner, Jeffrey Kishner of Sasstrology.com was kind enough to refer users to the Astro Dispatch

I hope people will forgive / understand / support the marketing you see around her lately. Believe me it is necessary to that every day when you wake up we're still here!!

I reiterate my commitment to surviving!!

451 Press is shutting down

From Bett Turnage:

August 10, 2009

451 Press, once the the largest blog network in the United States passed away today. The cause is unknown. 451 Press had just celebrated its third birthday.

Known for its coterie of talented bloggers and its broad base of special interest blogs, 451 Press was built on a dream, give bloggers a place to write about their passion and pay them for it.

451 Press suffered from tarnish in 2007 from it "let's pay the bloggers" reputation when disaffected former 451 bloggers complained bitterly of pay problems and a lack of communication from management. 2008 saw a series of system crashes that hurt growing traffic. Though new servers were installed it took months for traffic levels to build. In January 2009, Steve Shickles announced to the bloggers that sites would be culled to reduce expenses. Bloggers who lost their sites were offered other sites though many of these had already lost their fan base due to inactivity.

While the network had its problems, its core of dedicated bloggers held onto the dream, with bloggers who posted even today. Other bloggers were waiting for log on problems to be cleared so they could get up their posts. No one expected the total shut down of the entire site.

Steve Shickles, President and CEO of 451 Press, was unavailable for comment. Employees, however, have seen him around the building.

There will be no services. A comment below is encouraged in lieu of flowers.
