And them good old boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singin' "This'll be the day that I die."
"This'll be the day that I die."
I can relate to a lot of lyrics but at the top of my mind is this:
There’s only so much you can learn in one place
The more that I wait, the more time that I waste
I haven’t got much time to waste, it’s time to make my way
I’m not afraid of what I’ll face, but I’m afraid to stay
I’m going down my own road and I can make it alone
I'll work and I'll fight, Till I find a place of my own
Madonna-Jump
And when you feel afraid, love one another
When you've lost your way, love one another
And when you're all alone, love one another
And when you're far from home, love one another
And when you're down and out, love one another
And when your hopes run out, love one another
And when you need a friend, love one another
And when you're near the end, love.
"Crazy, I'm crazy for feelin so lonely. Crazy, I'm crazy for feelin so blue. I knew, you'd love me as long as you wanted and then someday, leave me for somebody new. Worry, why do I let myself worry? Wonderin, what in the world did I do? Crazy for thinking that my love could hold you. I'm Crazy for trying..crazy for lying and I'm crazy for lahuvihn (lovin) youuuuuuuu..."
since birth..I think.
when i was having panic attacks i would sing this to myself - "This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine."
also from Mos Def:
My Umi said shine your light on the world
Shine your light for the world to see
My Abi said shine your light on the world
Shine your light for the world to see
the song is great. the lyrics are sooo heartfelt and beautiful.
I'm *always* relating to song lyrics, they change as I and the times change.
Most current:
"But that was love, and it's an ache I still remember"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pafY6sZt0FE
Sometime's the light's all shinin' on me
Other times I barely see
Lately it occurs to me...
What a long, strange trip it's been
I was a vision
in another eye
and they saw nothing
no future at all
yet I was free
I needed nobody
it was beautiful
it was beautiful
-Patti Smith, Wing
And the night comes on
It's very calm
I want to cross over, I want to go home
But she says, Go back, go back to the World
-Leonard Cohen, Night Comes On
This one's tattooed on my shoulder
There is a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in
Also Leonard Cohen, from Anthem
Can't tell you how long I've related to it. I only discovered Cohen maybe 8 years ago but this jumped into my head a few years ago when I needed it and it's been there ever since.
"Some times you just have to let it go (Let it go, let it go)
Leaving all my fears to burn down
Push them all away so I can move on
Closer to my dreams
Feel it all over my being
Close your eyes and see what you believe"
Closer by Goapele
And
"Where you are ain't where you've been" -Glenn Lewis
Jane Siberry's "The Valley"
I live in the hills
you live in the valleys
and all that you know are these blackbirds
You rise every morning
wondering what in the world will the world bring today
will it bring you joy or will it take it away
and every step you take is guided by
the love of the light on the land and the blackbird's cry
You will walk in good company
The valley is dark
the burgeoning holding
the stillness obscured by their judging
You walk through the shadows
uncertain and surely hurting
deserted by the blackbirds and the staccato of the staff
and though you trust the light towards which you wend your way
sometimes you feel all that you wanted has been taken away
You will walk in good company
I love the best of you
You love the best of me
though it is not always easy
lovely? lovely?
we will walk in good company
The shepherd upright and flowing
you see...
If you smile at me, I will understand
'Cause that is something everybody
everywhere does in the same language

As a lifelong Aries, this one really made me say "yeah" as I am growing into the up-side of Aries and trying to move out of the ugly part lol:
"I was raised up believin' I was somehow unique/A snowflake distinct among snowflakes, unique in each eay you can think
And now I've got to thinkin', I'd say I'd rather be/A functioning cog in some bigg machinery servin' somethin' beyond me.
But I don't, I don't know what that will be, I'll get back to you someday, soooooon you will see" :)
Fleet Foxes "Helplessness Blues" I heard that and was like YES!! That's me! :)
Latest favorite---
And at once I knew I was not magnificent
Strayed above the highway aisle
(Jagged vacance, thick with ice)
I could see for miles, miles, miles
Holocene by Bon Iver
The following lyrics should be the theme song to my work---
Moved out of the house, so you moved next door
I locked you out, so you cut a hole in the wall
I found you sleeping next to me, I thought I was alone
You're driving me crazy, when are you coming home
Laid by James
a part of me must be eternally 19 - i will forever love fiona apple : )
If there was a better way to go then it would find me
I can't help it, the road just rolls out behind me
Be kind to me, or treat me mean
I'll make the most of it, I'm an extraordinary machine
Music has always played integral part of my life. There are several:
Bjork - "When in doubt; give" -one of my mantras
Bjork - "Lottery or car crash?" -My life experiences have never been "in the middle" this explains it perfectly.
I have both of these tattooed on me.
Also,
Pink Floyd - "All you touch and all you see is all your life will ever be."
Modest Mouse - "I push things out through my mouth, I get refilled through my ears."
I've been under siege since 2003, and this track has resonated with me since its release in 2007.

"I do not understand, what it is, I've done wrong
Full of holes, check the pulse, blink your eyes
One for yes, two for no...
I've no idea what I am talking about, I'm trapped in this body and can't get out, Oh...
Make a sound, move back home, get an invitation, with the edges sawn off
I've no idea what you are talking about, I'm trapped in this body and can't get out"
bridge
"Has the light gone out for you ? Because the light's gone out for me
Is this the 21st century ? Is this the 21st century ?
You can fight it like a dog, and they bring me to my knees
They got scared and put me in, they got scared and put me in
All the lies run around my face, all the lies run around my face
For anyone else to see, for anyone else to see
I'm alive
I've seen it comin', I've seen it comin'...."
Sometimes I wish that I was the weather, you'd bring me up in conversation forever, and when it rained...I'd be the talk of the day.
AND
Belief is a beautiful armor, but makes for the heaviest sword; like punching under water, you never can hit who you're trying for.
- both by John Mayer
Daniel Ahearn "I Will Let You Go"
How we play fight
As we dance slow
The smile you making saying ‘yes’ meaning ‘no’
Is so grey, so faint.
The words stray in your mouth with an ache
I’m standing in water with the
Light on my shoulder
The weight of the doubt
Turned me to glass
I’m through living in question
Dreaming the answers
No more paving the present with pain from my past
And I will let you go.
I've related to this before this song even came out, lol.
"I've been where you're hanging and I think I can see how you're pinned.
When you're not feeling holy your loneliness says that you've sinned."
Leonard Cohen
...and I think I'd have to echo Shannon:
"Ring the bells that still can ring,
forget your perfect offering,
there's a crack in everything,
this is how the light gets in."
I relate to lots of lyrics, and always have through my life. I love the imagery and the intense feelings that music evokes in me. I love to relate, to know that someone else felt like me, but was able to explain it beautifully and in a way that many relate to. I feel that I lack the polish to explain things lyrically.
This one has been in my head a lot because I did get the phone call that brought me to my knees:
She got the call today
One out of the gray
And when the smoke cleared
It took her breath away
She said she didn't believe
It could happen to me
I guess we're all one phone call from our knees
"Closer To Love" By Mat Kearney
And actually it's the whole song that's just the beginning.....
We're gonna get there soon
If every building falls
And all the stars fade
We'll still be singing this song
The one they can't take away
I'm gonna get there soon
She's gonna be there too
Cryin' in her room
Prayin' oh, Lord come through
We're gonna get there soon
Oh, it's your light
Oh, it's your way
Pull me out of the dark
Just to shoulder the weight
Cryin' out now
From so far away
You pull me closer to love
Closer to love
Meet me once again
Down off Lake Michigan
Where we could feel the storm blowin'
Down with the wind
And don't apologize
For all the tears you've cried
You've been way too strong now for all your life
I'm gonna get there soon
You're gonna be there too
Cryin' in your room
Prayin' Lord come through
We're gonna get there soon
Oh, it's your light
Oh, it's your way
Pull me out of the dark
Just to shoulder the weight
Cryin' out now
From so far away
You pull me closer to love
Closer to love
Cause you are all that I've waited for all of my life
(We're gonna get there)
You are all that I've waited all of my life
You pull me closer to love
Closer to love
Pull me closer to love (You are all that I've waited for)
You pull me closer to love
Closer to love
Closer to love (Cause you are all that I've waited for)
Closer to love
Pull me closer to love...
I really like the part about "dont apologize for all the tears you've cried....you've been way too strong now for all your life" It's all very relateable to me.
"I am a scientist, I seek to understand me
All of my impurities and evils yet unknown
I am a journalist, I write to you to show you
I am an incurable and nothing else behaves like me"-
Guided by Voices, "I Am A Scientist"
"Everywhere you go/You always take the weather with you"-
Crowded House- "Weather With You"
I walked the fields through the fire
Taking steps until I found solid ground
Followed dreams reaching higher
Couldn't survive the fall
Much has changed since the last time
And I feel a little less certain now
You know I jumped at the first sign
Tell me only if it's real
