I wouldn't wear them. But, perhaps someone "chained" to their workout might get a "kick" out of them.

but..er..not me :)

I am just guessing, may be they are trying to market by projecting them to be irrestible that someone might try to steal them hence the shackles.. however to me they arent irrestible at all.

I'm sure they will be a big success. Sadly.

Fugly, in more ways than just the visual! But wy are we surprsed? - we all know fashion is totally amoral and pretty well mindless too

Did you think prison or slavery when you saw them?

Anyone?

Hell yes, I thought prison and slavery!

That's why I'm wondering what the possible rationale could be for launching such a product. I will be sad to see young men wearing them, that's for sure.

They would not have developed them if they did not think they were going to make money. I don't agree with BP. I think they'll flop.

If you have 3 kids, you need $1000 for shoes.

Prison, but immediately after the words "slave to your workout" came to mind.

They're atrociously ugly and look like something you'de see on an escaped mental patient, IMO.  Those are horribly bright colors and the thick single velcro strap across the front is strangely reminiscent of old-person shoes or those orthodic boots they give you when you injure your foot.

Ummmm, I learned to tie my shoes somewhere around age 4 - I'd not like to regress, LOL!

I didn't think of slavery or prison when I saw those. I thought of high fashion because sometimes fashion designers attach things to fabric which are odd to me :-)

But then I found the Guardian article and thought "OMG that's so offensive!" and it clued me in.embarrassed Oy.

All I could think was....ok for walking or running, those things are going to hurt, chafe and cause sores and stuff. And to me, walking outdoors and running equates to feeling free. So it totally didn't make sense to me to put shackles on a running shoe because that just doesn't make sense from a practical or comfort or good sport tool point of view. This is why it blows my mind Adidas did this. They're die hard sports health promo company and supposed to conscientious last I heard? So it didn't make sense. I could see Nike doing this, but not Adidas. Weird.

EDIT - no not Nike....shoot. who makes the sweat pants that say JUICY across the ass part? That company I could see doing this. Oh forget it, I'm too out of date on this stuff. lol

Adidas canceled plans for a sneaker with a shackle-like ankle cuff Monday night after some critics said it too closely resembled a symbol of slavery.

I wouldn't need $1000 for my kids (I have 3) shoes. I have 2 that are Libra rising and they wouldn't be caught dead in those and the third is a Pisces that is going to do whatever the older two do. I showed these to them and they were like....."Huh?"

What I thought of was slavery when I first looked at them so I was not happy to see  them. Because I am for fashion being creative at all costs I can see the market for these, certainly but I'm not buying them! You just  never know, do you?

Did you think prison or slavery when you saw them?

Yes instantly, but I've been a researcher of history images for many years so of course I would know immediately where the reference comes from. And they are a 'logical' development from the hideous ghetto fashion of trousers drooping below the butt crack, which apparently stems from the confiscation of belts in prison...

When I find something particularly gross, ugly and asinine it's usually a big success - hence my remark lol. All part of the 'celebration of criminals' or 'criminal celebrity' we mentioned on another thread in the last day or two

BP, it's true that marketers have been able to convinvce people to buy hideous stuff, and wear it!

I think the shoes are a bit too Uranian for the current climate and how it will be where we're headed.

Caribou - the Juicy pants are from Juicy Couture.

Juicy!

The shackle shoes are just ugly.  I don't mind twisting things and poking fun at the sacred cows, but those are just bad all around and highly overpriced to boot.  Glad they aren't coming out.
