Building Self Esteem

I use astrology mostly to study myself and to have some kind of understanding over what is going on in my life. But of course there is no objectivity when I use it this way. Who's to say my interpretation isn't just a projection, either negative or positive of the energies on hand?

I've learned a lot here about energy and maybe you guys can help me figure out the best use of the squeeze i'm feeling as pluto in capricorn edges into the t-square in the next year and a half and squaring my own pluto in 2011.

Scorpio rules my 2nd house so this pluto square i feel is already affecting me. Pluto in capricorn is transiting my 3rd house and squaring my pluto in libra in the 12th. My career so far has been as a video editor, fairly lucrative, but in the last year I was laid off and work stalled. I have been trying to cold call and learn how to "pitch" myself to try to get work - one of the ways i interpreted the 3rd house transit - plus sound advice from people with capricorn planets.

However it's eating away at my self-esteem and i'm feeling inner resistance to continuing in this way. I also think it might be time to start writing/researching/producing for television as I think I have some skill with this (mercury in scorpio trines my jupiter in pisces and saturn in cancer) so with the support of a former supervisor/producer I am volunteering to write a historical segment of a show on history and architecture.

If I simply pursue writing/producing I feel guilty for "giving up" on cold calling and pitching to continue my profession as an editor. Any thoughts on this? Do I do the hard yet semi-debilitating work of knocking on doors and feeling rejected for a greater reward at the end? Or do I do the challenging yet rewarding researching/writing volunteering until I craft a new career direction?

As a child I was drawn to writing and reading Steven King novels. Pluto would have been transiting my mercury around then. I was centered out in school for my writing style (both positive and negative) and the reaction I would get from people is what drew me to media.

I also have saturn in cancer so this capricorn energy is challenging to me. My mentor with the writing is a woman. Cold calling strangers tends to be a capricorn/male world. I find it harder in general to be hired by men. I was once but it was because I changed my approach to landing an interview (3rd house), and he was a scorpio.

Any thoughts on this please share. Especially people who have been through their pluto square.

    Thanks :)

Well, that's all anyone's interrpretation is, right?  Since you know yourself, the facts and the details better than anyone else possibly could, I'd say that -barring serious delusions-, you're probably the best person for the job.

Someone like Elsa can help you get a handle on the big picture - she's incredibly knowledgable and she knows and has experienced things with astrology that many of us aren't familiar with and need clarifying....but people like that are resources.

    Go with your gut.

I called this "Building Self Esteem" because of the pluto in capricorn (building) transit which will effect my house of self esteem. I really enjoyed the results of it having finished my 2nd house. Not much rocks my innate sense of self. Except this new challenge - if i should keep pursuing the hard work of cold calling, and releasing the tension through yoga, or if i should see writing as the road to climb.

Liz, can you not do both?  Either equally, or some other more satisfying division?  80% writing, 20% cold-calling or some other ratio that suits your needs?

Thanks DreamsAreality. That might be a good alternative. My libra would prefer a balance, however the capricorn energy leaves me feeling i should choose.

Liz, I am no good with this kind of thing anymore.  20 years of working at home for myself leaves me in the just 'go with the flow' mode.  If I feel like working on X today, that is what I do.  If I want to stop in the middle and go another direction, then I do that too, so strict formula work division like this would be hard mode for me to get to, but it seems to work for some.  Even an I'll work on X four days this week, and Y the other workday?  My rebellious nature would blow that right out of the water.  "But!!! WHINE I don't wanNNNNNNna do Y today".

I wish you good luck deciding what works best for you.  And, heck, who says, you can't change your mind again tomorrow????

This would be nothing astrology related, but I am going through something similar. Being laid off can sometimes be draining to the self esteem. It's been a month since I have been, but contrary to you, I am unsure about my direction in life. Like you, I am also in a creative field (a web designer), but I'm looking to leave life in front of the screen gradually for a life in the not-so-glamourous field of fashion/beauty.

To me, you seem to know what you want, and I would suggest you run along with this. Perhaps if you can handle pitching yourself for video and doing some writing on the side, it would be great. I am hoping you have the energy to do this as it can be taxing yet somehow rewarding.

A good way to deal with pluto transits is yoga and physical activity. Since a few weeks after my layoff, I've been running and I've recently joined a yoga class, and these have made significant differences - or at the very least, I don't feel the world is ending right before my eyes anymore ;) I'm going through a very tough one PLUS my Saturn return at the moment, so you can imagine the pain I'm going through. Also, I read somewhere that with Pluto, you really have to be gentle with yourself and take care of yourself. So if the cold-calling is exhausting you, cut back a little or you'll burn out.

I hope this helps. I'm still in the throes of my Pluto transit so I am not sure if my recommendations even work. Good luck!

What would happen if you made one?  I mean -wrote, shot, edited a video of yourself that could do the cold-calling for you?  ie, become your calling card/resume?

That's a great idea DreamsAreality. Still unsure if people will look at it. But it's different than just a cold-call resume. Hmm. A friend mentioned something similar. He also suggested making myself a business with a different name so that it's not "me" out there. Both appeal to my libra 12th house planets.

Lunalie.. web design was my backup plan lol.  And I agree about the exercise. I go to yoga once a week. It's made a world of difference. Thank you for your insight. And good luck navigating your saturn return. I wish I'd known of this blog elsa through mine.
