If you were to cast someone to play your father in a play/movie based on your life (or whatever, use your imagination)--who would you pick as the actor from the past or the present?

My brother and I have both come to the conclusion that the person who most resembles our father would be Ross Martin (from Wild Wild West):

Morgan Freeman, hands down.  Dad and him have some weird facial resemblance going on.

Homer Simpson -- does he count? I love my dad, but he's just a bit off.

Apparently dude's name is Barry Corbin

But I know him only as Maurice from Northern Exposure.

My dad looks exactly like him.

Clint Eastwood.  Dad kinda looks like him, not as tall, and is certainly known for his limited, yet pointed speech.

I have two fathers.  they would be well-represented by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.  when I was a kid one dad came to my classroom and all the kids were convinced he was Christopher Reeve/Clark Kent/Superman.  seriously, they did not  believe me when I assured them he was not.

My dad resembles Burt Reynolds a whole lot. Aqua/Scorpio with a large female 'following'.

My father was always being compared to a famous film star - I'm just trying to remember which one! British, 50s/60s...  it will come back. He was 'conventionally' handsome in a very British way. Maybe it was Ian Carmichael in his younger days -

The actor Robert Arkins who played Jimmy Rabbitte in the movie "The Commitments" is a dead ringer for my Dad at that age.  My Dad came here from Scotland so maybe there is some Celtic relation.

Clint Eastwood for as he looks now.. and for his energy and clipped speech .. although dad has a bigger nose and less squinty eyes.

And for sure Hugh Laurie for him when he was younger.. just picture him at 78..

Thanks BP!!  My Dad came here in his early 20's and was very thin until he married my Mom.......she was a great cook.  In his older years he looked more like John Wayne, especially around the eyes.

John Cleese comes close in both looks and attitude, believe it or not...  *lol*

... but I'm kinda partial to Gerald McRaney, all the same.  :)

I was thinking, why are people picking older actors??  is the movie only about them at their age now?  I was totally thinking about movies about THEM and not about them in a movie about ME.  how Pisces.  how did my Leo let that one slip?

I honestly can't think of an actor that my dad looks like.

But if I were to cast someone who's film role was pretty close to my own dad...I would choose a cross between Michael Corleone, and someone from The Birdcage. Not exactly a nice person to grow up in the same house with.

I was going to post another thread about casting Mothers, but I honestly can't think of an actress who looks even remotely like my Mom. 

Yeah Nutsy, me neither.  It's a pity cause my mom's -amazing-, but definitely doesn't fit Hollywood's ideal.

My dad, when he was younger, was an absolute dead ringer for Tom Hanks.

John Hamm as Don Draper, appearance wise. Although my dad laughed a lot more than the character of Don Draper does and he loved to sing and entertain.

I'm putting in another vote for my dad looking and acting like Clint Eastwood. Like Del, he was in his 40s when I was born, so always seemed "older" to me. 

I'll go for a younger Dad here. Italian actor Luca Argentero (Americans may recognize him as the hot Italian teacher from Eat, Pray, Love) :

I first saw this guy participating Italian Big Brother back in 2003, and thought that he looked a lot like my Dad  when he was younger. Even my Ex agreed. My Dad has a more squared chin (but he has worn a full beard since he was 19, so you wouldn't really notice...) and blue eyes, but the upper part of his face and the whole vibe is very similar.

My Dad actually has more hair than Tom Selleck, but similar coloured eyes and moustache. He'll be 87 this year and still has all his hair! Same eyebrows and lined forehead.

Al Pacino!!... especially when he was younger reminds me of my dad when I was a kid (my dad was 22 when I was born).  when I was a kid I used to jokingly call my dad Gomez (from the Adams Family :D)
