Collective Mood in the US - Post the election
posted 8 months ago in Lounge
Upset and discombobulated. A Mars/Neptune type of feeling. Confused and misdirected protests (think Occupy movement). Intense anger and confusion. Misfirings.
The usual.
It went relatively unnoticed in my neck of the woods. People worry about the roof over their heads then anything else...
Sad, frustrated, disappointed. Not a Republican so I have been feeling this way for a while. I feel at a loss. I didn't want to choose between two people I equally mistrust and I am upset that Obama is in office again when he has done so many of the same things as previous presidents I disliked. I am disillusioned. I feel like we are left with many citizens in the US that are uninformed and follow the crowd like good little zombies - this goes for both sides. I feel at a loss. I have a voice that cannot be heard amongst the propoganda. I have no hope left. People say they are enjoying new things under Obama but we haven't even paid for that. We are a ticking time bomb living on borrowed money. Some day the creditors are going to calll and people will want to be rescued again and again instea of taking responsibility for what is happening now.
I have a stronger set of goals now, so I'm enthusiastic.
I think some people feel relieved, while others are worried, and others feel profoundly powerless.
People in my neck of the woods are pleased. Especially since the big proposition affecting my job got passed. Thank dog there.
Before the election I figured I may lay low for awhile because of the possibility of riots and stuff. Not sure where I stand on that cause I haven't left the house yet. I live in a heavily Republican but work with pro-Obama coworkers. Should be interesting. :/
I don't feel the excitement that many people are expressing around me, and to me, or... at me... I'm not particulalrly surprised our even disappointed by the outcome, because mostly I just feel that we must make the most of the next four years regardless. I know that our country will make many big decisions, and I disagree with a lot of my peers about what's right and wrong. I hate the polarization, so I think I need to communicate more about my political views and values, because people's misconceptions frustrate me.
Some girl who has been trying to be my friend for the past year just said she doesn't know if she can be my friend after she pried my voting status out of me, and then wanted to talk politics with me for the next half hour. wtf, I never asked her to be my friend in the first place! She's kind of a jerk, so I just try to be kind...
Re: Collective mood in the US post-election:
Hate was soundly defeated last night, and replaced by the collective's renewed hope for this nation's future.
The haters and sore losers will continue their vitriol and denial for awhile, but instead of having to issue rebuttals, we can now ignore them as irrelevant and move forward.
So I think the collective mood, once the hate dies down, will be hopeful and proactive.
I am relieved, not only that it is OVER but that there are no more political ads, and stuff. I am relieved because I am happy with the outcome. But I know that there is about half the country that is pissed about the outcome, so today at work, I kept my celebration to myself. I really don't want to Lord it over others. I would hate anyone doing that to me. ![]()
@blue_rose, no, they would not, but I try to have a heart and be sympathetic to people. So I cautiously say I am happy about the outcome and hope that he other person does not rip my head off or start crying....!
Nothing changed. The media abdigated it's reponsibility to the detriment of all Americans. George Soros celebrated. The changes in congress and the senate were those far left wingers and far right wingers...farther apart than those whom they replaced. I see no change in polarization unless it's more intense, so, welcome to the plantation. Now the real rubber hits the road. I've been keeping a journal and will continue to do so. Historic in more ways than one.

Why doesn't anyone ever do things like this to me ...
I wish....pfttt... what a bitch. Sorry that happened to you.... things such as these make me angry.... I don't like to have to be aggressive but.......
@Josephine....we can now ignore them as irrelevant and move forward.
Whether people are unhappy or not...no ones opinnion should be ignored nor should their view be treated as irrelevant.

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In my neck of the woods people are angry. They are VERY ANGRY...and there is no end in sight to this ~ im on this side ~ you're on that side.
In fact I am not sure an election has caused this much drama in my lifetime that I can remember.
This hate isn't going anywhere. You say when it all dies down....ITS NOT GOING TO DIE DOWN.... there is hell fury here.
I had to finally close my facebook account last night only to re-open it to restrict all the people on it but maybe 5....(hundreds and it took me forever) I have to keep the fan page up for the business and so that means I have to have a FB but I don't have to communicate on the personal page....and I won't.....not anymore.
I had a very hard time working today. It affected me greatly. Tomorrow I will not take it with me and I will no longer communicate with the giant assholes I have had to deal with over the last month.
I think this whole thing brought out the TOTAL IGNORANCE of too many people. I actually didn't realize I knew that many stupid people. Now that I realize.... I plan to amputate as every good Scorpio should
An absolutely HUGE sense of relief. Mostly because our area was tied up with issues on the ballot and that's what we heard about more than anything else.
As for the people elected.. I think some of what I said before the election to friends "same, same" kind of how people who don't have much of a vote or feel that their vote makes a difference as the canidates don't help them get what they need ie bridges that don't fall down. So it doesn't matter who is elected it the same, same in the end.
Being a "far right winger"..... I can tell you this: those that I know don't "hate" just 'cause the President is a member of the opposite party. We don't "like" the President 'cause he operates in an unauthorized manner ((aka: outside the boundaries set by the US constitution)).
If this president was a Republican doing the EXACT same thing..... all hell would be raised. Double standard , indeed.
** I'm quite sore at the results of this election: because it's obvious that too many people don't understand the principles behind the US Constitution.
"The haters and sore losers will continue their vitriol and denial for awhile, but instead of having to issue rebuttals, we can now ignore them as irrelevant and move forward."
I could do without the name-calling, Josephine.
@Glenn I think a lot of the problem is that civics aren't taught in school any longer.
"Hate isn't going anywhere!" ...Right! It is only going to get worse and worse and worse!
It's different ideologies! One says 'depend on me I will feed you fish forever." The other says "I will teach you how to fish and you can catch your own fish." They don't mix! They cannot! It's two diametrically opposed worlds.
I'm glad it's over for the momentary reprieve in brainwashing. To hear the media mouths say that the storm (while people are cold, hungry, homeless, without lights or heat, or food or clothes, or a roof over their heads... to say that was 'good'...) that devastated the coast of New Jersey and NY is 'good for politics' 'it helped'.... is indeed sickness of the evil kind! The projection has been and continues to be astounding. To be doing something while saying THEY are doing this! Unbelievable! Denial even of their own recorded voice and photos. Not a day to be proud to be an American!
I could do without it too
Thanks Jilly..... and I gotta agree. Back in my high school days , there was Social Studies , World History , US History , and there was 2-tests you had to pass in order to get credit for US History..... US Constitution and your State Constitution.
