Lunalie, us fires signs have this problem. We are too energetic to sit in one place. Because sitting in one place takes commitment.
Also, you're a double Aries? Aries rising also? Wow, you're very energetic!
Well, anyways. What Pluto in Sag taught this Sag is to take things one step at a time, slow down, and get over your things that annoy you, your weaknesses, and most of all your fiery ego (I'm not calling you egotistical just fiery). I wish I took this advice while I was in the Pluto transit. I am only now starting to take my own advice.
Commitmentphobic... hmmm... well, I wouldn't quite say that. I worked for one company for seven years and was quite loyal, productive and well respected. At the time, I had a friend who freelanced and she kind of scoffed at me for being a corporate hack, and I scoffed at her, "the freelance flake."
But now I freelance and I couldn't ever imagine going back! :)The variety, the freedom, and the incredible challenge of it all keeps me bright eyed and bushy-tailed every day. I feel like I've grown as a person and my eyes have been opened to the value of so much more because of it. Being a freelancer also helps you grow your "balls." You learn that if you want something in life, you can get it if you ask... if you're willing to be open minded and negotiate. Everything is negotiable.
And it's not the actual full-time JOB that was ever the problem. It's the total bullshit that goes along with it. The fact that I have to sit in a meeting for 40 minutes listening to some douche read off a piece of paper... the fact that I'll catch hell if I'm late getting back from lunch because I got stuck in traffic on the way to the bank... the fact that if I have a bout of insomnia and end up coming in at 10 am and working until 6 rather than arriving on time at 9 and working 'til 5, I'll get flack for that.
I think what it boils down to is that I don't like the feeling of having my time controlled by other people. If I say I'm going to do something, I'll do it, and I'll get it to you when you ask for it and maybe even before that. But prior to that, does anyone really need to be all up in your business about how you spend your time? No.
I have almost no fire in my chart with the exception of neptune in Sadge. But I do have a lot of first house inner planets.
Hi Lunalie, I know what you mean, I feel the same way about work. Give me freelance variety anyday. What is in your 6th house? I've got Jupiter in Pisces there opposite Uranus and Pluto in the 12th, and I used to get ill if I was in a steady, 'sensible' job.
I'd love full-time but full-time doesn't like me. I have uranus square saturn. Even though my saturn is well aspected from mercury and jupiter.. bosses love me when they witness this energy.. they don't like my rebellious side lol.
I worked for a summer when i was 17 at the hershey factory. They had the rule that if you called in sick for any reason you were canned. i thought that was stupid and a sign of bad management. We are teenagers and summer help.. you should expect the odd sick day and factor it in. In the real world we can get sick. I was a star. Productive, independent when needed, a team player when needed. But come the day there was a concert on a friday night (i worked the afternoon shift) at the end of the summer.. i called in sick. They canned me. It was the end of the summer anyway. Probably wouldn't have done that if there wasn't a stupid rule that IMO reflected their poor management.
Had something similar when I was a waitress. They thought I should be committed to waitressing with no flexibility back. And this was just to me. Other waitresses were actors and took time off all the time.. but i was expected to tow the line. When i requested a week off to train in my actual field they canned me.
The next job I had was similar. But there I actually fucked up. I lay down on my 12 hour overnight shift and someone took offense to it. Next job was a step up and allowed me to nap on overnights. Ran into a former coworker - who was wannabe management and a prick and he asked me "Do they let you sleep at the CBC?".. and I loved saying "yes actually they do" - he shut the fuck up. But even though CBC had great management to allow for human things like being tired.. I still didn't fit and they wouldn't commit to me.
My last job I was laid off from. Finally figured out how to curb my rebellious streak and it ended anyway. Go figure.
I'm not good at freelance. Shy. Just need a full-time, well managed job with a bit of wiggle room.. is that too much to ask?
I thrived best with 2 part-time semi-permanent gigs. Often ended up working more than 40 hour weeks but loved it. Just didn't like night shifts.
Toni: I guess you can say I'm an energizer bunny LOL! I walk or cycle everywhere - what does that tell you? LOL! I can't sit still! But your lesson of taking it one step at a time - the problem with us fire signs is that we're impatient. We want things NOW so we do things to make it happen, not knowing that it takes a while to do it. Thankfully, I have a lot of earth so I need to learn to channel that and actually learn that thing called "PATIENCE!"
Bananas: It's so awesome, isn't it? Freelancing. Being able to choose what you want to work on. Growing some balls. Setting your own schedule. It's amazing and like you, I'm loving every moment of it. Just like you, I don't like someone controlling my time. I find it very very suffocating - both creatively and productively. I found that I was much more productive as a freelancer than I ever was working in an office.
Opal: I have Saturn in Virgo in the 6th house so you can tell the lessons have been learned quite recently :) Saturn trines Venus in Taurus in 6th, sextiles Moon in Cancer in 4th and squares Neptune (yay....). I have a Capricorn MC which is a great placement for entrepreneurship... and I'm an Aries to boot. So I guess you can say, this kind of lifestyle is meant for me.
I used to get ill on a "steady" job too! In fact, I developed SO MANY stress-related illnesses (pre-diabetes, PCOS)! I am very self-sacrificing (12th house sun) by nature, so I figured out what the culprit was. it is just a matter of knowing yourself, I believe, and learning your working styles.
Liz: Perhaps what's meant for you is juggling a couple part time jobs and avoiding the night shift at all costs? What do you think? Were you happy in that situation?
Sometimes the traditional 9-5 just doesn't work for people. My partner, for instance, works part time in the food industry and freelances as an illustrator and graphic designer. Given that both of us are Asian and were taught that a stable 9-5 is the ideal job, it's often hard for us to explain to relatives what we do and why we do it - without being looked down upon. Luckily, both our parents accept our natures. My partner's parents are both self-made entrepreneurs, so go figure, right?
So I would say - do what you gotta do. Do what makes YOU happy!
True Lunalie, we fire signs must have creative outlets for out energy or we get stiffled...hence directing of energy is always a challenge. :P
I was branded commitment-phobic as well. I reasoned, if it only takes me two days to figure out what's wrong and another two months to solve it, then why stay for the next 5 to 10 years when I'm needed elsewhere?
I said, the CV doesn't make me. I make my CV.

I am commitmentphobic - not in romantic/friendly relationships (I'm known to be very loyal), but in my professional life. I do not like being tied down to one job professionally. I want variety. I want a challenge. I want to work on projects *I* picked out myself. I want to work with MY processes, MY way. I don't like working on someone else's schedule. Since I've decided to go freelance, it was challenging, yet so far, rewarding. For some odd reason, I find "stability" in what most feel is an "unstable" situation (ie. having multiple contract jobs as opposed to one full time job).
I believe a lot of this is due to my Aries sun, but I also have Venus (in Taurus, 2nd house) opposite Uranus and squaring Mars. This could easily translate to relationships, but Venus is about income as well, correct?
Can anyone relate? It doesn't necessarily have to be relationships but perhaps other non-relationship things (such as education, arts, etc) as well.
