Something I've noticed is that I know more conservatives who know/use/appreciate astrology than I do liberals. My theory is that perhaps they believe in more of an order to the universe and hold that there are certain inherent qualities of individuals vs. a scientific /"in this life" driven thoughts/beliefs that motivate them.

Just an observation....agree or disagree? What correlation between political view and astrology do you notice? (not sign and political stance but belief in astrology and political stance.  Because im sure we all know that certain signs are more conservative/liberal than others)

My parents were conservatives but they had no interest in astrology.

However, they were devout Catholics, and they were not able to survive without that - they most definitely needed "order to their universe".

I don't know about that, but I have read a book by the astrologer who worked for Nancy Reagan that was quite interesting. "What Does Joan Say" was the title.

I only know of 3 "out of the closet" conservative astrologers.  Definition of "conservative" may be an issue here.

May also be a difference between astrologers and those who believe in astrology? The professional astrologers I've consulted (and the ones I know of that have political astrology blogs) mostly seem to be of a liberal political persuasion.

But the regular-folk friends I know that are more open to astrology seem conservatively inclined, by any definition of conservative. In contrast, my liberal friends seem to think that they're too 'intelligent' for astrology, and that there's something unseemly about it, I think.

I'd also say, though, that a whole different indication of openness to astrology would be the degree to which one thinks of oneself as a CREATIVE person. That seems to cut across any political stances. So my creative liberal friends are open to astrology.... And the most psychic person I've ever known, who's also very into astrology, is a Sagittarian who is politically conservative.

Are we talking socially conservative or fiscally? The latter I can see buying into astrology (didn't Evangeline Adams work with a lot of businessmen, as I recall?), the former HELL NO because they think astrology is against Jesus.

I really liked reading "What Does Joan Say?"

I saw a conservative astrologer at a conference (a  man) get tears in his eyes when mentioned that his politics were conservative. He said he wished the astrological community could or would be more tolerant of people like him, it ripped my guts right out.

Whatever gives you a leg up in this world is valuable no matter your  persuasion.

If its gonna help you get thru life easier use it.

Great point about the Reagans- I've read that after the assassination attempt Nancy became even more reliant on astrology for scheduling trips/events etc.

I’ve also read that JP Morgan used astrology- getting that "leg up"
Actually one (of the many) reasons I am fascinated with astrology is the idea that it can be applied toward things like trading stocks, a hobby of mine.  If anyone knows of some good literature on the topic I'd love some suggestions.

"....my liberal friends seem to think that they're too intelligent for astrology..." Exactly! Like because it isn't fully embraced with the scientific community it is a crock.

I should have been more clear about my definition of conservative. I do mean those who dont tie their religion to their political views- fiscal conservatives, like myself.

Some will just always see religion and astrology and science and astrology as incompatible.

I definitely agree with this. Unfortunately I don't know any conservatives who like astrology, though I can see this being logical.

Well, TwentyTwo, from where I sit - disagree.

I live in South Carolina - buckle of the Bible Belt. The conservatives around here are generally in agreement that astrology is "of the devil." As a pagan, I'm in the broom closet for fear of my job and my life. I say "life"... let me illustrate. The owners of our local metaphysical shop received a death threat a few days ago - they were told to be out of town by last Tuesday, "or else." They're not going anywhere, of course. I don't know what things are like in your locale, but this is the kind of people we have to deal with around here.

I'd call myself a mildly collectivist anarchist and I love my astrology and astrologers. My conservative friends (and I do have several that I coven with, for example) appreciate the astrology I send them, but no more so than my liberal friends do.

I guess a liberal atheist wouldn't have much appreciation for astrology, but neither do conservative Christians, in my experience.

What sort of validation would you be looking for in folks, in order to say the astrologer is "appreciated"?

The idea seems like a generalization that can't really be validated, other than anecdotally.

To clarify: The conservatives I mentioned in the 2nd paragraph being "in agreement" would be the Christian conservatives, not the pagan conservatives.

Here, in California, where I'm born and raised, I would say the opposite. Most people I know who identify themselves as conservative are NOT into astrology. Just a subjective observation though. Peace, X

    **Baaaa!!!**

I must be the Conservative "Black Sheep" 'cause I loooove Astrology and love the Federalist Papers. It's the only thing that has helped me understand just why I piss off certain people. Not that I try , mind you.  Well..... maybe some.

I guess a liberal atheist wouldn't have much appreciation for astrology, but neither do conservative Christians, in my experience.

I'd have to agree with this statement , even though I fully support the 10-commandments...... I don't support the sign outside a building (too many people inside I feel are just hippocrypts).

*Sigh*  Maybe I'm a black sheep in more than one way.  Gonna head over to the south forty and get me some sweet red clover while the sun is still up. **Baaaa!!**

How come I'm not getting any email notifications on any topics I subscribed to today?

As some of you know, I was told by a rabid Liberal Astrologer that I would never find any "Conservative" Astrology blogs on the net.  I'll say it again - stupid comment.  What the hell do my political inclinations have to do with being interested in Astrology?  Am I the only <span style="text-decoration: underline;">individual left in the world?  You tell me:

Baptized Catholic, confirmed Lutheran, more Eclectic Wiccan than anything, may join a Unity church some day, descended from Hungarian Gypsies on my mother's side, grew up with psychics, fiscally Conservative, socially Conservative with some very strong Liberal views on several things, have always voted Republican because that's either who I wanted or I absolutely loathed the Democrat.

I am me!  I don't fit in anywhere.  I'm tired of the media in this country and all their mind-game bullshit.
