Doctors Express injects franchise model into urgent care
posted 1 year ago in News and Current Events
I really like the immediate-care doctor office I use. If you have something crop up that needs attention right away, it's almost impossible to see your primary care physician inside of two weeks at best. If you're a worrier like me, it's a godsend.
I still use a main doctor for physicals and ongoing care, but if I need to see someone right away, they're great. It's good, fundamental medical service.
(They also take my insurance, though they are obviously out-of-network so I pay a little more in the end)
I too like the concept and agree there is a big need for it. I have used similar settings seeking medical care. Some of them are staff with nurse practitioners which also helps keep costs down and they can write scripts for things like anti-biotics in cases of strep throat and ear aches.
After running into this situation - waiting for 2 wks to see a Dr. or nurse practitioner for an appt. for a rash - I am all in favor of it. Quick and affordable it the key and these clinics are popping up everywhere.
There are a lot of folks who just need something looked at, get a shot or quick 'script and want to be on their way...If there is something more important needing attention, at least someone qualified has given their opinion about it..
Those who think the government issued health care will improve things might want to take some time to talk with those who have experienced this situation first hand. It will NOT get better. You will NOT have choices. Talk with anyone who is on some form of Medicaid or Medicare.

"Christopher Prior practiced medicine in Littleton, Colorado Springs and the Army before deciding he wanted more freedom in providing care.So instead of starting his own practice, he turned to a business model that looks more like a McDonald's than a mom-and-pop sandwich shop..."
I expect this will catch on for similar reasons, I think psychotherapy etc. drops off. We're just not going to have health care like we've had in the past (per choice not necessity in my mind).
You can't see it in the graphic but a tetanus shot which I needed a few days ago is $24 (plus $20 admin fee) and you are in and out.
