Ever Wake Yourself Up From Dreams By Talking Out Loud?
posted 4 months ago in General
Hahaha!
I hope you got the little bugger before you woke up!
Yes! I sleep talk and walk all the time.. especially when stressed..
I once woke up trying to stuff my duvet out of the window.. I thought it was a sheep and it couldn't breathe.. ![]()
I have spider.. issues.. I often wake up shaking out my duvet because I am firmly convinced (in my fast asleep state) that I have spider on me ..or in my bed.. usually accompanied by a shriek or two of alarm..
I've been known to have full on conversations.. I get really embarrassed when I wake up in the middle of them.. and realise that I am adamantly defending something that is usually complete nonsense.. the other person is sitting up looking at me as if I have landed from some far off planet somewhere...
Hahaha, GW,
If I had a person like you in my life, I'd never go to sleep just so I could see what happens next!
(j/k)
LOL These are amusing. Because I do such goofy shit in my sleep.
The talking doesn't happen to often. But it does happen. The things I do more often is hand movements in my sleep. Trying to grab for something, or smack at something. I end up waking myself feeling like an ass. The one I will never forget is when I woke up in the middle of trying to eat something that wasn't there. It was like a sandwhich or something and I had my hands up to my face like I was actually holding the food. I finally woke up and saw what I was doing, I laughed so hard I woke my husband.
The other is my legs kicking like I'm trying to run, or the infamous falling thing that happens. I start kicking all over the place trying to make it stop or get away. I've gotten caught in the blankets and fell out of bed a few times. haha
I can't sleep without some kind of jackassery. lol
Lee, that's hilarious!!! ![]()
Demelza, I've woken up laughing a few times, most often, though, I laugh just after I woke up from something I was dreaming about that tickled me. ![]()
I most often wake up cussing at somebody...that's probably what happened last night.
The last time I woke up that way (and remembered what happened) I started saying 'shove it--' and woke up as I finished with 'you fucker' and then I laughed out loud...
Hey Dawn,
I wouldn't be surprised if a majority of us snore. I can't sleep on my back or else I'll definitely snore, I've caught myself doing it just as I'm falling asleep and then I angrily roll onto my side and tell myself to shut up or die.
It's funny, actually, because I've heard people in my life declare in the past that they never snore, yet once they're asleep you hear the buzzsaw going and you think 'no, you never snore...hm!' We can't help it, it's human nature. But sometimes, it sounds pretty goddamn painful!
I wake up from dreams where I'm crying to find I'm actually crying in my sleep. Wet cheeks and everything. This happens often.
The other day I was shaken awake by Mr. Gemini because I was yelling very loudly in my sleep. I remember the dream; I was trying to scare away a would-be attacker I couldn't see yet (it was coming up the stairs and I was on the landing at the top) by doing what you'd do if a bear were eyeing you - make yourself look big and loud and scary so it thinks twice against trying!
Oh luci, crying yourself awake to find yourself crying... That's sad. ![]()
What a typical Pisces!
(Don't take offense at that, I adore Pisces!)
Nutsy: Most of them are about my mother, who was an unemotional Gemini. She really kept me at arms lenght and I don't think she did it on purpose. I have nothing but good things to say about her as an adult that can see past childhood preceptions, though.
In one dream, she was taking my step-sisters to an art museum and telling me I couldn't go with them because she was sick of dealing with me and wanted a break (pisces child with abandonment issues = hard to handle). I was so angry and hurt - I'm the ONLY ONE OF US that loved museums when I was a kid, and in the dream I was going "WTF? She told ME she'd take ME to see the Dali exhibit! They don't care about ART!" and I just sat down and started crying.
Sure enough, I woke up with a snotty nose and a wet face and pillow.
Edit to add: Oh, and by the way? In real life she DID take me to see the Dali exhibit, with my aunt. I was around 13 at the time. So PFFFT to my subconcious.
luci & satori, I'm sending you hugs ahead of time for the next time either of you wake up crying or sobbing, it's just so sad to hear about....
Nutsy and Demelza! I do the laughing thing too -- when you do that, do you usually remember what was so funny in your dream and you just can't quite see the humor in waking life? Luci and Satori -- crying here, too :(
Anybody else wake up talking or trying to talk or yell?
I had a friend who once punched me while she was asleep -- she was from Serbia and said she was dreaming of the war (this was in the 90s w/all the bombing & etc).
Love dream stuff!
It's only happened a few times, but there was a month or so where my hypnogogic processes were screwed up. Most of the time it was just moving my arms, though once I woke up screaming.
Very disconcerting to someone who normally dreams lucidly. I was not a happy camper, about any of it.
Jul,
I can't remember an instance of WHY I woke up during laughter, but I'm pretty sure it was either at someone else's expense in the dream or because I was having a good time.
And, that would definitely suck being punched awake by the person you're sleeping with, especially if you were having a good dream when it happened! ![]()
Wyrdling, regarding immediately forgeting what you were referring to int he dream...I really can't stand forgetting my dreams, or what had triggered me to do something so active that it awakened me.
good lord. at the beginning of my Saturn return, I had a typical 'crossing the chasm' dream where I was literally crossing a large expanse of water in a tiny rowboat. A large, child-sized black bird was perched behind me shouting 'magpie! magpie!' I turned, saw the giant bird creature and began shouting 'MAGPIE! MAGPIE!' and woke up shouting it. Now i am on the lookout for a magpie 'signal' from the universe. ...still waiting....
Yeah, it has happened, and more than once.
@Luci - I do the same all the time. I am dreaming that I am crying and then wake up, realizing that I am actually doing it, with tears and everything. It's not a nice feeling to wake up to.
I've never woken myself talking, but what do y'all make of this: If I'm having a dream where I don't like what's happening, or it's scaring me, etc, I'll yell STOP! (in my dream) and then like time standing still in my dream, I'll put things right in my dream! Seems weirdly controling to me, no?!!? Anyway, it does make for much more entertaining and enjoyable dreams
Anyone got an ideas what's up with this?
Angie
The subject of dreams fascinate me. I talk alot in my sleep but the funny part of that is sometimes if I answer people. I mean I would start talking and if someone was in the room with me, such as a husband, or even my kids when they were young, even cabin buddies camping, they would try to engage me, and I would respond, total nonsense but I have been told I am quite comical. I have dreams that played out.
I learned in one of my psychology classes that if the dream was remembered and very intense that the mind can not tell the difference between what has happened in real life vs. what happens in a dream. And you will react to the dream in real life as if the event happened in real life. Not to sound perverted or nothing but I guess that is what kinda happens in a hot and sweaty, heaving breathing dream.

This happened to me last night. Thinking back now, I can't remember exactly what I'd said. I know I was responding to someone within the dream, but I said it out loud and woke myself up....
Of course, I merely rolled over and said to myself, "Go back to sleep, dipshit, what's the matter with you?"
