Have you grown thick skin yet? Is thick skin a Saturn thing?

I've learned a lot over the past few years, but one of the most important was to grow thick skin. I am learning to detach what other people say from truth.I've learned that people don't always mean what they say, but I've also learned to hone more of my Saturn/Uranus side. Saturn teaches us to limit our emotions and Uranus teaches us to detach. But I'm only 'guessing' the astrology of this!

Don't get me wrong, emotion is a great thing, but I've left myself vulnerable the first 2 decades of my life (I can be too nice an honest sometimes). I am 20 going on 21. So over the past 2 months I've learned to not care what other people think of me or what other people say.AND IT'S WORKING!

So I want to ask all of you, have you grown thick skin yet? And what is the astrology of thick skin? Is it Uranus (detachment)? Or Saturn (putting up walls)? Could be both.

Yes. My Saturn sucks, but he's taught me the most. We're tight buds now.

You'll have your Saturn square and Saturn return and then it will pass over your Mercury, Sun and Moon, and then over your Ascendant, and then eventually, you'll realize you're an old lady* and really, to hell with everybody else and their puny thoughts and insignificata. Live your truth, pick your battles, fuck the haters. Getting older is extraordinarily liberating.

(*if you are in fact a lady. feel like I made a mental note of it which I promptly forgot. if you're a dude, then switch up my gender refs)

I have Uranus in the 1st conjunct Jupiter so I'm simpatico with that energy. Second nature.

oh i don't think i have a thick skin, not really.... but i bounce back sooner than i used to. Saturn is getting ready to leave my 1st house....

Capricorn is repulsive to Cancer (paraphrasing something Elsa said to me in consult once) and it's true -- yet great strides are made when i embrace Cap/Saturn values......

I have a much thicker skin now (I'm 35) than I used to. I have a bunch of planets in Cancer and Cancer Ascendant. I also have a Moon Pluto Mercury T-square.

The Cancer planets necessitated me to have a thick skin because of what's coming IN, and the T-square necessitated a thick skin because of what's coming OUT.

I've learned that life occurs on many different levels at the same time. I try to pick which external "channel" I want to tune into, or need to tune into. And I can have a completely different channel turned on internally.

Not sure if that's healthy or not, but to me it seems like a pretty sane response to an insane world.

    I'm trying!

And failing that, I think it's almost as good to be able to regenerate.

EDIT: feel like I should clarify- I think hardness is sometimes necessary and I admire those people who learned the hard way and are sometimes numbed out to emotion, but still care about people. (Totally fictional example, but Terry Prachett's Granny Weatherwax is this sort.)

However, some uber-hard types make me think that somewhere inside there's a wounded, screaming brat who's calling the shots.

I'm not a Cappie, not terribly-saturn oriented. My screaming brat is a bit closer to the surface :p  I figure I have a lot to learn in the ways of the world, but if learning that can make me more effective in life, I say bring it on.

I hope I never have a thick skin again. To be honest, I've gotten more sensitive than when I was younger, and I never want to lose that.

When I was 13, for instance, I couldn't figure out why people were so bothered by September 11th, and just kept telling my mother, "The military will handle it, there's nothing we can do, so don't worry about what you can't control. There's no point."

I was also confused as to why people were so surprised about the escalation, as there had been attacks on U.S. Embassies overseas recently, and it seemed reasonable to me to think they might escalate into attacking the mainland.

Finally, I didn't understand why the WHOLE U.S. was reacting with equal intensity, because the attacks were centered on the East coast, and there was no immediate threat, fallout, or death anywhere else.

Now that I understand human nature better, I'm almost disgusted at how "thick" my skin was at that point.

I think Taurus is the thick-skinned sign

Saturn rules the skin, thick or otherwise...

athenian2000, I can understand what you're saying. I thought the same way as you until one day I thought that if those terrorists on 9/11 can get in America, doesn't that mean that they can do worse things to us? And I started to realize what a big deal 9/11 was.

Elsa, I love that picture of the bull!

Elsa, for some reason I hadn't thought of Tarus. It's so obvious!

Also, I know Cancers aren't thick-skinned usually, but I keep having this image of a hermit crab in my head.

Supposedly I have an aspect for thick skin (Venus in Taurus 2nd trine Saturn) but I'm a softie (Moon in Cancer 4th, 12th house sun, Saturn/Neptune square). I'm now just learning how to channel my stable aspects so... I'll let you all know how that works when I figure it out :P

Old lady am I.  My skin is more spotted and mottled than thick from aging and living.  Saturn plays hard in my chart and throughout my life.  For a chunk of time during my twenties and thirties I grew tough skin to adjust to a complete different culture.  I became the illusion and slipped in undercover.

I agree with Athenian ... my strength has come from learning to love the softness of my old skin.  Mottled or not, Saturn has taught me a lot about going through life mottled and molting (like in lizard ... Scorpio sun et. al).  "Live your truth ... yup, it varies, so life is a journey.  Pick your battles ... that too there will be plenty.  Fuck the haters ... yup, like Elsa has story-told some of 'em will want to marriage my illusion ... NO, NO WAY veil-down.  Getting older is liberating and things including body parts and beloved beliefs break-down.*Uranus and Saturn dancing?
