Hmm if you are letting your phone dry properly.. like is it opened up and upside down so the water can drip out? Then that will affect the drying time.. but when I got my laptop wet (I too stupidly added water to offset the coffee that had spilled :P) I had to wait a full 5 days for it to fully dry before the techs would turn it on.
So I'd say it needs at least 5 days.. do you have that time to wait to see? If not then order the new phone. You can't afford not to if it's a business convention IMO.
oh ho, that's a new one on me. But makes ultimate sense. I'll try that when I get home from work. Tonight is kind of the decision point and I am OH SO frustrated. (welcome to a merc. retro, eh).
THANK YOU!!
The alcohol thing works an amazing amount of the time. Just submerge the whole thing, or dump it all over, let it dry and voila. I have done this myself and had it work. T-Mobile guy told me.. :)
It's not openable. My SO looked at me and sez "oh just take the battery out" "oh, right, you can't" and then started laughing at me. grrrr.
I can't chance the wait beyond tomorrow and that's cutting it close. Gah. I was SO tired when I went to do laundry. I'm so careful normally. But, well, that's life with small expensive electronics. I'm starting to think of getting a small basic phone as a backup and just keeping it even if I can get the other one working again. You know, just in case my purse gets stolen again or I wash it again. Third phone of the year for me and I'm getting tired... :D
Oh man, it's not an iPhone is it? Water damage is about the only thing that will keep the genii from replacing it for you. (What's the plural of Genius anyway? Geniuses? I like Genii better.)
{{{mudlikesubstance}}} I'm really sorry. It's totally a Mercury Retrograde thing, too. I like the basic backup phone option. I still have the phone I had before I bought the shiny, simply because if all else fails I can have AT&T reactivate it for me, and I know it worked just fine. I just had some gadget lust and was up for contract renewal.

I feel stupid. Yup, with good reason. So i need advice. In less than a week I get on an airplane to go to a huge trade show with my SO and need to be able to communicate with him and others at the show (meet up, write stuff up, etc.).
Here's the dilemma. I WASHED my cell phone (ok, you can stop laughing now) three days ago and it's not drying enough to turn on yet, and it's looking like a no-recover situation. I've got it in silica and have my fingers crossed but if it doesn't turn back on do I order a new phone for overnight shipping? Do I get the cheapo crap phone or another one similar to what I've been using (internet, work email, etc. enabled). Think about this -If I'm to have it before I get on that airplane (so I can trying to recover/transfer some contacts) I need to order this Mon. or Tues. Gah.
No surprise that this all happens with merc. retro but when you are so dependent upon a piece of electronics and it goes at the time when you're needing it - which path do you take??
Thoughts? The price difference is huge and important but it will also be coming out of a business budget/account which doesn't make a huge difference but it does mean that if necessary I can "afford" it so to speak.
