She attacked, he handled himself with terrific grace. Very impressive.

He must know her in RL and could not have been expecting this...

    Elsa

    yes.

I am betting anything she comes back and dogs him. Damn.

I would jump in (I remarked on the thread before she did so am getting the mails) but I think he knows her in real life so...

As long as it isn't a whole "watching a train wreck turn into a huge fireball" type of watching... I generally hate it when tensions like that get taken out in an online medium, especially if it's someone known in real life... ugh...

yeah, she is busting his balls.

I linked it but this gal is hell bent to save our souls. He is going to have to end the friendship to end the harassment. She is going on about "dark" when from my perspective she acts like a witch herself... or some kind of buzzard or bird circling 'round looking for prey.

This is a spectacularly nice man she is harassing. He's just not nasty at all and she's all fangs and what not. It's like watching a bully.

    See how nice he is:

""It's actually the opposite Barb, it's right in our face in the very 1st chapter of the bible in Genesis 1:14 states so powerfully that God created the stars in the heavens to be used for signs and for seasons. So if God went to all that trouble to create the heavenly bodies for us to use for signs then how could it possibly be less than divine to learn how to interpret those signs? And if we we disregard the significance of those signs are we not disregarding one of God's chosen ways to communicate his will to us? It's very difficult to learn the language of the stars so it's very easy then to be lazy and not learn. There are many things that have been hidden from us by those who mean to rule us and control us and the book of Enoch is one of those things, it wasn't canonized in the king james version because Enoch describes God commanding the archangel Raphael to teach him alchemy and astrology and Gods secrets of the universe. Then Enoch was sent back to earth to write about it."

And her response will be along the lines of "no you're a dirty rat."

she sounds like my fucking sister. people wonder why i hide my astrological studies from my family, well who needs a buzzard harassing you!

that "darkness" bullshit really pisses me off. if your faith is so strong why are you so fucking scared someone has a different symbolic language than you? is it going to infect you like fucking swine flu?

    @#$%$%%^

I once told told someone who was trying to save me that they would have to stand in line - and that it was a very long line...

ha ha goddess. you know what i'm talkin' about! sometimes i fantasize about telling my sister "this is where the black bear shits" but really there is just no point. if you want to waste your life pondering the flammability of others, go right ahead. i'll be busy trying to enjoy the beauty of this planet while i still have my wits and my energy.

I hope he can deal with this well past this silliness. Bible thumping attacks often tend to end poorly and with very little thought out reasoning which is really quite sad. Belief trumping the reality of the whole situation such as having a friendship and treating a human being with respect. Send my best wishes along.

I find its best not to take the bait in these situations. I just let the person know at the first strike that I'm am not interested in their proselytizing. Then I shut down all communications on the topic.

Religious types? Ah, those are old enemies of mine. They attack a lot of people I know. :(

Agnostics, astrologers, tarot users, people of other religions, homosexuals, etc... it's just awful.

So much injustice... I wish they could be stopped. I tell you, if I ever live out my Aries sun at all, it will as the leader of a movement to help put an end to their cruelty and tyranny. They've gotten away with it for too long.

This is one of those pointless arguments - nothing but a merry-go-round, around and around we go. Other arguments I choose not to have:

"Gay people are sinners" - (You cannot argue with blind ignorance)

Pro-Choice (me) vs Pro-Life - (Same as above)

"If only they did not take God out of schools, everything would be right in the world." I actually tried to sort of agree with this once, taking the stand (which I believe) that all students should be given a certain time during the day to meditate, peacefully - hell, we all could use that. I try as much as possible. But no, this person is talking about PRAYER, so again, no point in arguing.

Oh, and my favorite one - Creationism vs Evolution. I mean, I run the other way - what the hell is the point?

I don't mean to say these issues should not be debated, and rights fought vigilantly for. What I mean is you are never, ever going to convince someone who believes in any of this fantasy-land bullshit otherwise. You do have to fight though to enact laws to protect the rest of us from their insanity.

what a shame.. that's clearly not a rational person. So much cruelty happens in the name of religion. Shame.

We are all entitled to our beliefs, and sharing them in a mellow way is fine, but imposing them with hostility is simply not on, and reflects a certain intellectual lack surely.

The internet is such a good channel for research and for community, but it also offers a massive voice, which must be tempting for those who feel unheard. That male astrologer is clearly in a different league to his challenger. Rise above, good man. Switch that light off.

ps not my intent to push rather than express my thoughts there, either but thought about that and it did sound like it ..just me musing ..feeling sad that such a nice person should be put in that awkward position and am just a little uneasy about the demands of these social network sites .

Dorothy - you can't be serious. Someone who opposes abortion is "blindly ignorant"? Do you realize the number of people around the world that you are tagging in this way?

Like I said - this is one of those subjects that one side is never going to convince the other side. Those who are pro-life think that someone like me is a "baby-hater" - so therefore, my opinion is what it is, and I don't try to change anyone else's on this matter. How many people do pro-lifers tag as Godless? I won't be attacked for my opinion, and I won't attack anyone else for theirs. I will continue to vote for politicians who support my views - those on the other side can do the same. I am a mother, I work with children, I love children - my opinion stands.

I feel sad for people who are ignorant of other beliefs because they're so stuck on their own religion. I questioned my religion since childhood and since then explored and learned other religions so that I can understand other people. I once had an argument with a "Jesus Freak" who was trying to bible-beat me to death because I practiced astrology. He called me a witch and always joked about my "crystal ball"... I brought up the story of the Three Wise Men and how they were able to find out about Jesus because of the stars - and he tried to link me an article that astrology had nothing to do with the Three Wise Men.

    *sighs*

Even I learned from a VERY CATHOLIC school once (and perhaps because I had an open-minded teacher) that astrology was used a lot back in the times of Jesus.

Yeah. Don't get in an arguement with a person where their faith is on the line. They won't be interested in listening. Sad, but nothing you can do except shut down and back away. In fact the more eloquent and reasonable you are the more likely they'll get angry at you.

(unrelated) but funny you should call her a buzzard. When I was trying to be an uber-Christinan/having to listen to that sort of stuff, I had a couple dreams about being attacked by a vulture.

    goddess- i lol'd ;)

kinda' like with the mormon missionaries- told them "did it, didn't like it, not going to go back. thanks!"

and yet their mouths kept moving?

I'm a faithful Catholic and completely embarrassed by these types.

It bothers me because a lot of them are only worried about the state of THEIR souls and whether THEY are going to Heaven. They really aren't concerned with anyone else's soul, IMHO.

The thing that bothers me the most about religion is the endless rules with no rhyme or reason behind them, not counting the Big Ten and the Beatitudes. In fact, a couple of months ago, I linked to a really over-the-top Catholic guy's site. His version of Catholicism wasn't too far off from some of the garbage the Taliban and other fundamentalist religions "preach". That doesn't have a thing to do with God and love and forgiveness. Scary.

My definition of "blindly ignorant" is someone that cannot see past the scope of the arguments for their side. Their side is right and all others are wrong simply because it's NOT their side.

Someone that takes the time to consider other view points and still disagree with it is neither blind nor ignorant, by definition of the words.

i grew up in a religion that employed door-to-door proselytizing. while i don't subscribe to their belief set, i do believe they are good people who are doing what they think is right.

from what i've seen growing up this way, they feel strongly about their beliefs and do believe they are helping others live a better life. i can't fault their motives, though i personally would never try to deter someone else from their belief system. i have felt compelled to share my disagreement at times, but more noting it in situations i'd feel implied agreement if i didn't speak up.

i only ask they leave me in peace with my beliefs. sometimes i get it, sometimes i don't. but it's what i ask.

Just a crying shame. Sending white light the astrologer's way. I believe in spiritual protection and in astrology.
