Justice Dept. Asked For News Site's Visitor Lists
posted 8 months ago in News and Current Events
people have been alarmed since the patriot act. a lot of people were expecting this president to roll back the worst of that.
but, well. i was worried that whoever came in would just keep what gave them power...
when are enough people going to be alarmed, i wonder???
Watching "The Lives of Others" last night (about the East German Stasi). There's one scene, they're at the Stasi College learning interrogation technique. The instructor said 'it's those who are innocent who fight back, the guilty ones remain silent.'
I know it's just a movie but I started thinking about how people are afraid to defend themselves...defence seems to have fallen out of fashion as has making a fuss. Maybe people wonder HOW to make a fuss? They wonder why bother..
A person can write/contact their respective government reps, for one. In this case they could write to the Justice Dept. and make their displeasure known. Or write a letter to the paper, or their own editorial and post it somewhere on the Internet? I don't know have any other ideas but aybe someone else does.
I am not alarmed because I know this is coming. We all do. We just need to get ready for it.
If you think that things are tough and tight now, and that privacy and personal liberties are being infringed upon, just wait. During the next 19 years, things are going to get much tighter. Controls and laws will become more stringent. Pluto in Capricorn will demand conformity, born out of fear that different is dangerous. The words “patriot” and “treason” will lose their meaning, and in some cases they will become interchangeable—mainly because what is treason to one person will be patriotism to another—just as they did back in the 1760s and 70s. The country’s mood will become darker and much more conservative. It’s not going to be a matter of Democrat or Republican anymore, because the new ideologies will bleed across party lines.

What in particular are they looking for, how can they prove it's you, and what are they going to do with you once you express your opinion?
Like, what are the big red flags ( criteria ) they're using to zero in on you?

Justice Dept. Asked For News Site's Visitor Lists
"In a case that raises questions about online journalism and privacy rights, the U.S. Department of Justice sent a formal request to an independent news site ordering it to provide details of all reader visits on a certain day. "
