And yes, luci, I'm a guy and I agree with you that what David did was wrong. If anyone did something like that, I'll consider it wrong.
I'm no saint myself, God knows, so I tend to not sit in judgment on stuff like this. The whole thing should be a private matter for the people involved. Still, Letterman has always been quick to jump on other people for having issues just like this. The list is long. His comedy routine will be undermined by this. He won't be able to jab people as much. He'll look like a hypocrite. I didn't watch the public apology on his show. I'm glad. Public apologies are part of the baggage that I'm tired of. My late night comics, when I watch, are Stewart and Colbert. They're smarter, edgier, funnier.
Letterman was an alcoholic which he publicly admits. Seems like he has some OCD stuff going on and maybe a very high sex drive and gets bored easily.
Where there is one addiction usually there are many more in the closet. While he broke the trust to the loved ones in his life you have to high five him for coming clean about it on national tv.
This is the world of duality that we live in. He is probably a free spirit and finds this world very myopic and confining, which it is. Plus he's probably well hung & has a strong libido. WHich most funny men have.
I just really don't like dishonesty. My philosophy is whatever consenting adults do with each other, really I couldn't care less.
But it is not cool to be deceptive - I am pretty sure the man who tried to blackmail him was involved with the woman in question. Letterman should be happy he didn't do what most people do in a jealous rage - get a gun.
Relationships that are "open", it's not for me, but if both parties agree, and know the deal, at least that is fair. But how many of these situations are mostly one person screwing around, and the other one being oblivious to it.
I don't forgive that kind of deception in my relationships.
I just found out that my best male friend (and my only straight male friend i might add) has repeatedly cheated on his long-time girlfriend, who is a gem. This has totally affected my view of him as a person and am going to find it hard to deal with him in the future.
I almost feel like there is a huge divide here...between the people who abhor and do not tolerate cheating AND then with those who find themselves on the sliding scale of fidelity (which I guess would include the grey area of "yes, but there were problems, it was only a kiss, etc..." as well as flat-out, straight up cheating in a committed relationship).
I too am sick of the leniency with regards to cheating and the frequency with which it is appearing in the media. Unfortunately, our world is working against the principles of interpersonal honesty these days so Saturn/Pluto...bring it on! I would like to see a change!
Mel Gibson sure seems to skate. Got his DUI squashed today and was able to have a 30 year marriage annulled almost instantly after he got his mistress pregnant.
Sure, but what about his career? Everybody thinks he's batshit crazy; he hasn't had a good movie in years.
He owns Malibu, so as long as he stays there he should be fine.
