I've always wondered the difference between the two flavours of mercury in each sign. What is the significant difference between Gemini-style mercury and Virgo-style mercury?

I like to think of Gemini as the gatherer, and Virgo as the sorter.

Virgo discerns, i know that. Hairsplitters! And I say this as a virgo moon who is friends with other virgo moons and virgo suns.

    Many virgos are intellectual powerhouses.

Geminis are the talkier/more social side of mercury.

I know I'm generalizing -- this is all from my experience

Both are cute and age well :)

And honestly, the Gemini style seems a bit more "scattered" to me.  Wait. "scattered" doesn't sound nice. How about: multi-tasking?

The mercury is less grounded (earth/virgo) and more flying (air)

Gemini is Comic Sans, Virgo is Helvetica.

Ladies, thanks for the feedback! This cleared a lot out for me!

kashmiri: I do notice Virgos being good at sorting. Every Virgo I know are so precise in their communication!

moonpluto: I've always found it refreshing that Geminis are multi-taskers. Every one of them I met seems very "ADD." And coming from someone who's diagnosed ADD.. it's almost... refreshing? I guess because they "get" me.. (though my ADD-ness is probably Saturn/Neptune based... I get very foggy very often).

notatirem: You're speaking my language :) That TOTALLY cleared that out for me! Helvetica is such a pure and simple font... No frills, very direct, very neutral. Have you ever seen the documentary, "Helvetica"? I watched it recently and highly recommend it.

Gemini is hand gestures, Virgo is sign language

Yes, yes I have seen that documentary, its very good.

My best friend is German and frequently says "German people do this" or "German people prefer that."  One time she said "German people love graph paper." which struck me funny and I made fun of her for a very long time after that.  Anyway... flash forward... We see Helvetica and one of the designers, I forget which one, actually says word for word "German people love graph paper."

I got hit with the I-told-you-so's pretty hard.

Kashmiri: So is it wrong to say that Gemini-style communication would be indirect while a Virgo goes straight to the point?

Notatirem: LOL!!! I had a few German friends back in high school myself talking about how they have this sort of "restraint" in their life. I remember a friend of mine saying (when I was trying to buy her lunch because she's not eating), "I'm German. We don't eat lunch." It was weird for me at first until I discovered German design on my own. For some odd reason, her statement made some sense (but still not a lot... I hve a Cancer Moon... how can you NOT love food?)...

I also am very grid-based in my design. I don't do graph paper, but I have a Photoshop website template with a grid with good vertical and horizontal rhythm :)

i like geminis cuz they usually have planets in cancer :) it's a nice mix (I guess Virgos could too, but that makes sense -- I like the combo of gemini/cancer because it doesn't "make sense" it's air/water)

virgos annoy the crap out of me these days (again, disclaimer, i have a virgo moon so i can say this!) Also my NN is pisces. I'm supposed to be less critical (vrgo) and here i am criticizing.

Virgos judge/criticize, and I mean this in the best ways and the worst ways.

I think the Geminis are flying too high to even bother with all that. They are on to the next thing, maybe a party!

And as always, must take into account the entire chart.... but Lunalie, yes, there is a difference!

virgos plan the party (and make sure all aspects are running smoothly throughout) and geminis greet you at the party, chat you up, and make sure everything stays interesting and entertaining.

or virgos help make it happen, geminis help keep it lively, maybe?

I have a friend who is Gemini Sun/Moon/ASC...once, we were having coffee and she said "oh, I just love when you're drinking espresso, the way the leftovers slide down and streak the inside of the cup!"                                                                                                          The way she said it just...I started bawling. I was right in that little cup sliding down the edge. She thought I was having her on, of course. I see Gemini as enjoying the act of observation in the moment, whereas Virgo leans towards parsing meaning in it. That's what I was getting at with hand gestures vs. sign language.

Comic Sans?!?!  That's almost a graphic design insult!  Says .  How about Century Gothic?

    15.
    Lunalie

    lol Jessica!

My partner and I (both graphic designers, though I'm more web-focused) are looking to find ways to somewhat incorporate Comic Sans in our designs... Somehow, we're failing miserably!

    Century Gothic might work!!!

OMG this inspires me to want to start a new forum but I don't want to alienate the non-designers out there!

    I don't Comic Sans, either.

Here's a link to a campaign to have in banned, because HEY! Saturn is in Virgo! o more ugly fonts! LOL

    Jessica

Yep, we've got only 13 more days to purge the world of its ugly fonts!

I think that what we can agree on, unequivocally, is that both Gemini and Virgo are sans-serif.

    Lunalie

Dammit, we need to lobby against Comic Sans then!!!

I used to say "I Hate Times New Roman!" until I learned typography (I am not a formally trained graphic designer)... Then I found out how I can make Times New Roman work for me!!!

I am the serif kinda gal. I HEART Georgia! :)

You guys all covered the difference between Gemini and Virgo communicators so well that I have almost nothing to add. Almost. What I had wanted to say was that this post came in timed perfectly with the other post about finding your ruler. Mine is apparently mercury, with my Ascendant in Virgo. And as I was saying in the other thread, my EX boyfriend has gemini rising and the communication was always pretty strong. (We're also both air signs).

Everything you're saying about the DIFFERENCES is absolutely true. I LIVE in the details (my dad was always fond of telling me that I "dwell in minutiae") while the Gem was always flitting about from one interesting topic to the next. He covers a lot of ground while I prefer to stand in one spot and DIG.

I find Virgo to be very thorough and I like that about them. Most of the time I do clash with Virgos because I'm more about excitement/action with a lack of follow through. Virgos are just awesome at following through. It's admirable.

some schools think virgo is ruled by chiron. which puts a whole new spin on virgo. which is finally a blessing for virgos who have been cursed with being picky.

Oh great, i've got gemini rising and sun/moon/mars/venus in virgo. Brain overload.

In Virgo it is precise, contained. (Earth)  In Gemini it disperses and travels (Air)

I've never understood that. Chiron is more of a wounded chameleon, and besides there is now reason to believe that Chiron hasn't even been around as long as astrology has. I can see connections between Virgo and Pallas, and possibly Hygeia, but certainly not Chiron.

I think the Chiron/Virgo connection is about Chiron's mastery/teaching angle, since he holed up in his cave and studied medicine, music, etc. then taught Asclepius âš•.

Poor justification for giving it that rulership, I'm afraid. You can't apply myth today to heavenly bodies like they did back then. Hell, even the ancients had limits of how much they relied on them too, plus we currently live in a more secular era now, it's not like I think we can count on the people who name them today be in deep connections with the ancient Gods so soon again just yet.

And what about the asteroids given only numbers? What about their myths? Oh wait, they don't have any.

Really, I'm all pro-asteroid (to a limit), but we have to base our conclusions on observations, not mythology, which I'm afraid too many modern astrologers base on secondary sources anyways. These are balls of rock or gas, not the Gods or other mythical creatures.

I feel like I should of added-

Chirotic people have this tendency to have "issues", and that's putting it mildly. Chiron's energies can be pretty depressing, it can indicate a history of drug abuse, sex abuse, and/or other types of victimization. How is this truly fitting for any for any sign in the Zodiac?

I'm a big believer in "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" and also one's wound can be your biggest gift so I'll just have to agree to disagree with you silver gun.

I never said that a wound can't help you grow or be a gift. However, I've yet to see any convincing research that Chirotic types are Virgoan in any way, it's mostly stuff about the matriarchy, reference to myth, and the divine feminine in order to justify these conclusions, not research and observations.

ETA: I've googled around for reasons why, I've yet to find a convincing argument for this as a rulership, much less affiliation.

silver gun, i don't know much about Chiron, are you up for starting a thread on Chiron and sharing some of your ideas on it? they might become "buried" on a mercury thread...
