Miramonte Elementary School ( potentially triggering topic!)
posted 3 months ago in News and Current Events
I've been following this closely especially since the first teacher charged was from my area. I can't believe this kind of thing was able to happen. I can't believe a teacher would even attempt something like this but he's been a teacher for like 40 years, he has probably been doing this kind of thing since then. I am happy the superintendent is taking action but the parents should have really been notified when he was fired 1 year ago. Parents have to be involved with their kids school, sports, etc, I think to try and lessen the chances of something like this happening. I think the lines of communication need to be more open so that parents know what is all going on during a child's day in school so they'd know if something weird came up.
Yeah, I've been seeing this on the news everyday since that first pervert was identified. What sucks is that they removed ALL the teachers who'd been teaching there, apparently, and replaced them with new ones. Did they really have to ditch EVERYONE? That sucks for those who had nothing to do with the thing, nor had any knowledge of it. I'm hoping the good teachers get decent placements soon.
Temporarily, Nutsy. As I understand it, for the length of the winter term so they can fully investigate the issue. I read earlier that another teacher has been identified as a potential conspirator in the situation.
I don't have kids, but I think if I did have them, I'd prefer the send everyone home to cool off approach. Hard to say, what with that whole not being a mom thing.
I honestly think it was a radically good idea.
It gave the district a way to say that they had removed any remaining remnants of the adults who might have been part of the abuse. I also read where the district talked about the time each of those teachers would need to invest in being a part of the investigation. The district has taken away all of their responsibilities EXCEPT helping the investigation move forward. They are still being paid so their full time job is now to cooperate with the investigation.
When I first heard that 2 teachers had worked at this school for decades, allegedly sexually abusing children, I thought something was wrong with the school.
It just doesn't seem possible no child and their parents over all these years had not tried to bring this to light. And teachers talk about each other also--- While i'm not saying it was a "vast conspiracy", it does seem like there must have been a number of people over the years who were willingly ignorant or just turned their back to the situation.
Sounds to like the whole 1960's Sexual Revolution "train" kinda jumped the track.
If I were a parent..... I think it would be time to go hunting , and bring a few hundred of my fellow parents with me. The anti-gun ones can use whips & chains , the Peace-nicks(?) ones can use megaphones to talk the prey to death.... the rest of us can bring our weapon of choice. I think I'll bring a Medieval Torture Table (with tools) and a case of K-Y jelly (for those who wish the prey to suffer like the victims did).
O_O
Ugh. That article seriously made me sick to my stomach.
After reading about that, the first thing I thought was "what if the replacement teachers they're bringing in were part of the problem in the first place?" (The article states that teachers who had previously worked at Miramonte and who had been let go due to budget cuts were the first to be asked to fill in.)

Oh my god, have you guys heard about this?!
http://abcnews.go.com/US/los-angeles-school-closed-teacher-abuse-scandal/story?id=15525125#.TzLV_cX7_4g
First off, don't google/bing/yahoo this if you don't want the gory details.
The LAUSD (school district) superintendent removed the entire staff from an elementary school - and I mean principal down to kitchen staff - after two teachers were charged with "committing lewd acts upon children."
Everyone in the restaff is getting background checks and fingerprinted before they can come in. Looks like the full time staff is out for the winter track.
The superintendent is also bringing in a social worker for each classroom, and parents have the option to send their children elsewhere. (Though, honestly, given the location, that could present some insurmountable challenges.)
I'm just flabbergasted over this! But also I'm really glad that the superintendent appears to be taking this seriously and putting the health and safety of the kids first.
I dunno, man, my mind is fucking blown. I can't even imagine how much charges like that would turn the lives of the students and parents upside down!
I would normally ask interesting and salient questions, but I don't have it in me right now. I'll leave it here for you to discuss as you wish.
