Farewell My Concubine (3 hrs long and slow, so if that's not your thing, don't watch this! lol But this movie made me sob for like the last 2 hours):
Schindler's List
Fiddler on the roof
I hate everything about PS, I Love you but I watched it on a plane and bawled like a little girl.
The only movie I ever got a little misty over was a 1972 Bruce Dern movie called, "Silent Running" it's old and does not have all the sophisticated special effects of todays movies but it is a classic.
Nota, do you like the puppy? Then I'd recommend the comedy/drama "Year of the Dog" with Molly Shannon.

Peggy is single, childless, in her 40s, a lonely executive assistant in a friendly office. Her dog Pencil is the love of her life, and when he dies after eating some sort of toxin, Peggy's life spins out of her control: a friendly neighbor invites her for dinner; a friendly staff member at her vet's calls with an abused dog he recommends she adopt - she does, and also finds herself attracted to this fellow. She becomes a vegan, supports animal-rights causes, and embroils her brother's young children in these concerns. Saving dogs and other animals become such a passion that her mental health and her job may be in danger. Are regaining control and finding love beyond her reach?
Pay It Forward
Moulin Rouge
Australia
House of Sand and Fog
Marley and Me
Some others have been mentioned already. Atonement would make me totally sob (the plot is so sad really) if I would not be distracted by drooling over James McAvoy ![]()
I was watching Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou last week for the second time. Didn't cry the first time but I was bawling like an idiot while watching it last week. The background music by Sigur Ros during that tear jerker scene might have something to do with it too.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I kept hearing what great movie it was and wound up balling my eyes out at the end! It was just fucking DEPRESSING!
Dear America: Letters Home from Vietnam. If you don't cry when hearing the stories of these soldiers then you are a fucking stone.
I'm sure there are many others, but these are the two that jumped to mind.
Up - the first five minutes had me off, then I was sniffling on and off thru the rest of the movie. Wonderfully uplifting tho if you get the moral of the story.
The Boy in The Striped Pyjamas - wept for an hour after (and I'm not a cryer)
City of Angels - that scene at the end. Once described the plot to an ex boyfriend while the GooGoo Dolls 'Iris' video was on in a Hard Rock Café. Cried just describing it.
I refuse to watch Marley and Me - I know the story, and I know it's a basket of trauma. That it's always trailed as a comedy makes me mad.
Saw Blood Brothers the stage musical last week, the script's written for a film but not been done yet. Never cried before in a theatre but that got me, big time. Wicked is also amazing and also has a movie in the pipeline at some point. They're the weepies of the future :)
@stellia - I refuse to watch Marley and Me - I know the story, and I know it's a basket of trauma. That it's always trailed as a comedy makes me mad.
Me too! A comedy? It isn't a freaking comedy! The people who call it a comedy have probably watched some other movie or got really confused.
OH yeah, Diving Bell and the Butterfly.
Also, an italian movie featuring Tilda Swinton called "I am Love"
What popped into my head right away reading this thread was Steel Magnolias but my all time favourite good cry and love to pieces movie for this sort of cathartic release is The Bridges of Madison County.
Arshambow, thank you so much for sharing that Scandinavian movie. I want to see that now. Desperately.
Foreign films are often more enjoyable than anything made in North America, for me personally. They do them differently with the flavour of the country they're made in, their customs, lifestyles. It's refreshing and feels like travelling with a good friend and meeting wonderful & incredible new people. I really needed this. Thank you again.
Dancer in the Dark
Breaking the Waves
both by Lars Von Trier.. both leave me sobbing and shell shocked.
My Left Foot
The Elephant Man
Both leave me drenched...
@caribou - what you just described about foreign films I can really relate to. Have you ever seen Jean de Florette with Gerard Depardieu it's a French film, I think you might like it too. :))
@Rachael..Love the new pic and the International house of Mojo. Attitude baby! :))
