My boss. This is his last month. I just went into his office to drop something off and he put a phone call on hold (!) to tell me, "Hey, I have a secret squirrel mission for you." I say.."ok, what" He says, "I need you to leave at 1 o'clock today then come back on Monday and tell me how it went."

....

His way of giving me time off without having to take it off my vacation.

I love this man.

I've been in the workforce for sometime. Never had one like him. He treats our entire office this way. It isn't just me.

And treating everyone like that is a sure way of making everyone love you, and really give it their best. Nobody wants to treat their boss badly if he's such a great guy.

Clever man - so long as he can act the authority figure when he needs to be, he'll get the best out of his workforce

He sends us flowers for Valentines and Mother's Day. He takes us to eat at Christmas with his wife. He remembers our birthdays. He knows about our families and asks about them.

I don't always get along with the other women in my office. Mainly because I'm just different and don't like to mix work with social stuff. But, I can tell you, I've never seen a boss as respected as he is. I'd do anything he asked because I know it would be above board. You know? He isn't crooked. Not the least little bit.

I sat down with him once and told him, look, I don't like all this business political stuff. If you there is something I need to know just tell me. No beating around the bush. Even if you need to can me. OK?

He was all with that. "Buddy" he says, "You can count on that." He calls me "buddy" and "sir" all the time. LOL. ya think anyone else could get away with that? I call him ma'am.

He looks for what we are good at and allows us to play that up. The girl who is the best with numbers is our accounting chic. I'm the tech/writer guru. The organizer is the secretary/recorder of the group. The mothering one is our office supervisor. The girl who likes to deal with realtors and professional types takes care of our inventory homes.

He travels to visit with our "customers." I'll be taking this over when he leaves. But, whenever he is going to be gone for a few days he will pick up a box of treats from the local bakery for us. It's a wonder we all aren't terribly overweight.

It's a wonderful atmosphere.

Sorry to see that boss leave.  I almost always hated to see bosses leave.  Sometimes the replacements were better, sometimes worse. I  hope you get a good one.  Or better yet, you get the job.

Most of my ex-bosses were insecure assholes, but with Pluto and Uranus in the 6th, not surprising.

when I've had a boss I'm particularly impressed with and he or she has qualities that I admire, I try to incorporate that behaviour into my own work.  I've had some pretty great bosses in the past so now that I am boss, I try to emulate them.  If he aligned staff with their skill set, that is a great quality!  Will you have a new boss coming in ?
