What is your relationship with food like?

I grew up on the same diet...ate the exact same meal of meat and potatoes 6 nights out of 7 while I was growing up. Same lunch, same breakfast....little variety.

I was bulimic from the age 13 until I was about 19. That was when I started a physical outdoor job and I had nice, supportive, body-positive women as co-workers. Having them around helped me accept myself for who I was.

I wasn't overweight, I had mental problems that I dealt with by barfing.

Now I have no issues with food...I like it, that's all. I eat what I eat and don't worry about anything other than if I'm getting enough fresh fruit and vegetables.

I know that the Moon represents nurturing, sustenance, emotions, etc.

    1. Where is your Moon?

    2. How does YOUR moon and it's aspects correlate to your relationship with food?

Moon in the 1st/Capricorn (The Boss), part of a Cardinal T-square with Pluto (purging) and Venus/Mars (desire/movement)

I'm food friendly. I'll pretty much eat whatever you put in front of me, except the stuff that normal people also dispise (liver and onions, anyone? Blech). I've got my favorites and comfort foods like everyone else, but I'm the easist going "what do you want for dinner" or "what do you want on your pizza" person there ever was. I do tend to over-eat when I'm bored, though. My brain turns it into hunger. :/ Moon in Leo.

I hate cooking (yes, a Taurus who hates to cook). I think food tastes better if it's takeout or restaurant and I had nothing to do with its creation. Love various sorts of foreign cuisine, though it took awhile to get there since I was one of the picky kids and wouldn't even eat pizza as a kid.

I am forced to do a weekly potluck for my volunteer job and I refuse to do any other regular potlucks (say, every time there's a work one) anywhere else because doing one once a week is hard enough. I don't cook with love, I cook with rage and constantly think that I am going to get belittled for not having the food perfect enough. I had a Virgo rising mother nitpicking everything I did and I associate cooking with screaming. And also with doing domestic things I hate like having dinner parties.I don't want to be able to cook a decent meal for my family because if I can, then people will make me do it and I don't wanna.

Sadge moon. Ain't no love and food nurturing here at all. My shrink and my mentor have told me to nurture myself with loving food, but I don't WANT to. That concept has been ruined for me and I don't want to "reclaim" it. Screw homeiness, I want out to dinner.

My  is in , 6th house.

I love to eat, but with a placement like that, I won't eat if I'm sick or stressed.  I change up between ultra healthy, organic, non-processed, whatever else food (6th house) and rich, creamy food ().  In fact, I'm eating whole milk yogurt right now.  healthy, rich, creamy food.  Yum!

I love to cook, but don't do it as often as I'd like.  I get distracted too easily (all that 6th house and  emphasis), plus I have an very picky  rising kid who won't eat most of what I cook.  So I make a lot of quick 'n easy food.

i fluctuate between eating too much and feeling guilty and eating too little and feeling guilty. easily affected by stress, sends me into overdrive in either direction. 40% i'm neurosis free, and in that case i eat a very healthy diet, plenty of fruits and veggies, hardly ever eat out, no high fructose corn syrup, light on the caffeine, you get the picture. verrrry sensitive in terms of health so every once in a while i'll have chips or something like that but i feel awful physically, mentally, and emotionally afterwards.

Moon/Venus in Cancer in the 6th house.  Food nourishes my body and comforts my imagination/emotions.  I like funny food images and songs.  I own wind up sushi.

(not funny, but food and books are cool)

That book is Oblomov, about a lazy intellectual with high ideals that never materialize and he spends his life in bed.  I identify with it.  It's from an article on Gary Shteyngart.  Here is a picture of the old Oblomov and the modern Oblomov.

Cancer Moon in 4th house sextile Venus and Saturn, Trine Uranus and square Pluto...

I grew up in southeast Asia therefore meat, rice, noodles, and (exotic) fruits are my favourites. I used to eat a lot of meat when I was younger and different type of soups. I LOVED mangoes as a child and I STILL love them. I always buy then when they are in season. I was also raised so that foods like chips, chocolates, and other pastries were luxuries and "special occasion treats" rather than a part of our daily diet.

When I moved to Canada during my teenage years, I was very thin and I could eat sooo much. Due to the food availability, I tended to lean towards more carby foods. I progressively ate less meat and more carbs and pastries... this is probably why I am now prediabetic :P

I cook for my loved ones to nourish them, however, I had a very grab-and-go diet during adulthood. I never cook. I ate out or bought microwavable dinners because I was so "busy". Really, I had time.. I just never acknowleged it due to the stress of adult life.

Since my Saturn Return, I've barely cooked for myself. My "grab and go" diet was replaced by healthy salads and fruits that do not involve any type of cooking. I just mix them up and eat. I've been feeling better since :) I am probably almost 90% vegetarian, except whenever I am on vacation or whenever I feel like cooking the foods I ate while I was growing up... I still eat mangoes... A lot :)

    Moon Cancer/11th

I'm very conscious of what I eat, but I'm not afraid of trying new things out. I grew up in Slovenia, which borders on Italy and Croatia, so lots of mediteranian/italian/serbian influence with quite a few dishes that are purely slovenian. My mother loved cooking and she was always experimenting, but most of all, she cooked good food. In one way, she really spoiled me in terms of tasty food.

In my teens, chocolate and ice cream was the first thing I looked for when I got home, I could eat a litre of ice cream in an hour or so. Not one stomach ache, either! Nowadays, I rather mix myself a banana and orange smoothy instead. I'm really over ice cream and chocolate now, though I do treat myself to the occasional ice cream scoop or bite or two of chocolate.

If I catch myself eating a lot, it's because I don't have anything to do. So I instantly go pick up either a pencil and draw, or my PSP and play a game, or do something constructive. It takes my mind off food and more towards fluids, since you get thirsty doing, well, anything really!

Let me just say I had a very meaningful relationship with an eggplant parmagean (sp) today.
Moon conjunct pluto in the 1st house-- virgo

I have a sensitive stomach (cancer sun) so that makes me a picky (virgo moon) eater

But I love healthy food and I love sweets. I love to eat (mars in cancer) but slow on learning to cook. Get tired of always preparing for myself. My ideal man would cook for me. And serve me. And feed me :)

    Or vice versa...

I really love those cooking competition shows - Top Chef. I learn a lot.

jenfullmoon, I think we have similar issues.  I have a capricorn moon in the fifth and my mom's venus-saturn is on my IC, quincunxing my venus, and aspecting both my moon and hers.  her pluto is on my AC.

food issues at home were seriously complicated.  and powerfully shaming.  eating out was a vacation:  the presence of other people guaranteed a pleasant outcome.

after I left home I ate out constantly.  I rarely kept food at home.

my ex liked to eat at home and was a good cook.  to please him I cooked most meals.  I know my food was fine but he always criticized it.  he would walk in and start seasoning the food I was cooking too.  his chiron was on my venus, quincunx his virgo-venus rising.  I seriously think he just liked to hurt me.

I've finally trained the kids out of parroting their dad's criticism of my cooking and things are starting to gel.  I'm doing better at cooking most days but I'd still prefer a cheeseburger handed through a window to anything I make.

like jenfullmoon, anything I make, no matter how good, doesn't taste very good to me.  but I'm working on it.  in the past my food tasted like crushed hope.  it's getting better.  my current S.O. is the antithesis of all this food issue crap.  I've never had such an appreciative eater.  he also feeds me whenever I let him and doesn't seem to have any shame-based, food/body image crap to level at me either.  you gotta love somebody who when you tell them you had junior mints for breakfast laughs heartily and says, "GOOD FOR YOU!"  his cancer mars, libra moon, aries sun forms a grand cross with my moon-venus square, but his mars and neptune trine my sun.

    Satori that's great!

I'm a good cook and love to feed people including myself.  John is my first partner who is a little picky about what I cook.  He loves most things but he is fussy about leftovers and hates to have to decide what we eat.

I love food probably a little too much and have to be careful not to trigger my own scarcity issues.  If I am worried about having enough money to buy groceries or try to diet I compensate by eating more which always has resulted in weight gain.  I gain weight when I am with a partner and lose weight during break ups.  7th house Jupiter is probably to blame.

12th house Scorpio moon has issues.  :)

Well aspected Libra Moon [if one considers having Neptune conjunct the Moon a positive]. I'm generally considered a very good cook and my mom was a good cook. I have always enjoyed preparing ethnic dishes and have quite a few cook books [Venus in Sagittarius].

However, I do see myself as domestic without being maternal and that I attribute to a 4th house Vesta in Pisces trine my Scorp rising.

The stress due to under-employed spouse since the first of the year has been VERY hard on my stomach - been surviving on rice with beans & vegies for the most part. Libra Moon conjunct Neptune takes on waaay too many of my partner's emotions - especially since our Moons are exactly opposite!

jenfullmoon and satori: your posts made me think of my mother, who hates cooking and has cooked nearly every single supper for her and her husband for almost 38 years...he was very sarcastic about her lack of skills...maybe it is my history (eating disorder) but i think criticizing people re: what they eat is extremely damaging. she also had scarcity issues and would never throw anything out. lots of rotting things in the fridge. (moon-pluto I guess).

the fridge was also controlled to the extreme when i was young (under 13, things changed after that). here's your breakfast, here's your lunch bag, no snacks, supper, nothing else. nothing. we weren't even allowed to open the fridge.

    moonpluto

I like this phrase "scarcity issues" -- I totally get that. I think it's why I always try to finish those HUGE portions that restaurants serve-- I fear there won't be another meal out.

    Although of course there will.......

Same here too: take out or restaurant food always tastes better than most anything I would make--

Cooking is so attached to self care for me. If I'm cooking then I'm usually doing okay. One thing you can't ever mess up though is juice. I love my juicer.....

I get PISSED if someone critiques what I eat (not just the cooking of it). One summer I was taking classes at college and living in the dorms and I had roommates who would bitch about the nutritional content of EVERYTHING. Um, it's not like there were other places to eat here. Also, my last boss is a former gymnast and she definitely limited what kind of foods she ate, and I think she was kind of horrified every time she saw me eating cake on someone's birthday. Sheesh, folks, if it's not your body, who cares?

I am amazed I don't have an eating disorder. I very consciously have a "who cares" attitude towards these things because if I let myself think about dieting I would go to instantly shaming myself if I looked at a cookie. I could go to a very mean place in my head extremely fast if I tried limiting myself like that.

I run into those types all the time -- not just about food but it plays out a lot in the food arena--

The ones who say "you're eating what??? Did you know that blah blah blah"

And actually yes I do know and usually know much more than the one who is critizing. I am a very very informed eater -- virgo moon

i get super pissed. super. fucking pissed. people who say "you know blah blah blah" I call them the body fascists.

i had a gal i studied with last year who obviously had food issues, and EVERY SINGLE THING i ate in front of her there was some comment. finally i said "You know, i don't want analyze my food to death, okay, so just lay off!!!!!" this is the line up while she criticized me for ordering a donut instead of a muffin:

"why don't you eat a muffin it's better"

    "because i fucking hate muffins"

    "you hate muffins? that's weird!"

"why is that weird? do you like every single piece of food out there?"

"well no but muffins are so much healthier!"

"Well why don't you eat a fucking muffin then!"

I think i actually said that, too, that's how 0--->60 i get about it!!! Luckily (?) the other gal with us was a fully recovered anorexic and she not only backed me up, she talked me down "it's your body, your decisions, your health, your food, your life" etc etc (God bless her, she's a Cancer).

sometimes i write this shit and it makes me marvel how while i don't have "food issues" like i did before (ie. i don;t have angst about what i eat) i definitely have "other people trying to make any decision about my food" issues.

I guess Capricorn wants to be the boss, but Sagittarius likes to be making their own decisions, too.

I literally grew up in a restaurant so food = objects with very little emotional issues attached & I grew up eating pretty much the same stuff all the time. Diner food except my (Southern) mom would cook cornbread and stuff on Sundays.

My dad grew up on a farm and farmed a 1/4 acre behind the restaurant so I sold tomatoes and corn and stuff during the summer too.

Saturn in the 4th house and Moon in Gemini in the 6th. Cancer DSC.

Like Jessica, when I was a working workaholic type person I would often forget to eat.

I love cooking & feeding other people.

moon in taurus, right smack in the middle, and in the second house.  i LOVE food.  and no, i see nothing wrong with a little sensual indulgance (albeit, i may go overboard sometimes with the food, alcohol, cigarettes and other "sensory habits" to help deal with my emotional ruckus).  ;)

until i get fat, i see no need to worry just yet...

one thing i can complain about though: i have no ability to deal with hunger.  until my belly is full, i can be a bit grumpy and whiney.  my friends know by now to feed the "hungry hungry hippie."  if they're hanging out with me, the last thing they want is a grouchy taurus moon begging for food.

I am about to blog on this very topic. I have a Pisces Moon, which is also void of course. It trines Jupiter in Cancer (nocturnal, so dissolving boundaries) & both trine neptune. I have, in short, problems with boundaries! I eat (and drink) not so much for comfort (that is more the cancer moon), but to feel that I am not feeling anything. I am best when I am challenged or changing- when I am flatlining emotionally, I will eat... anything... but not sweet stuff.

@kashmiri- I once went to a Xmas Day buffet with an eating disordered Virgo who kept saying helpful stuff like "you aren't going to eat all of that are you?" (It was my 2nd trip to the seafood & I had 6 prawns with no seafood sauce, just the prawns & 6 natural oysters- hardly a pigout). After which she very helpfully advised me that was why I was fat. Hellooooo, it was flipping Xmas Day!

my moons in cancer or leo and i have always been the sort of person to say 'im not hungry' about 10 times a day .

thats because my mother CONSTANTLY nags me to eat even when i have just eaten a huge meal

she will repeatedly ask and ask and ask me if i want food when im not really hungry i think she's got some weird disorder

i have been malnitritioned since about the age of 11 ,i dont have anorexia nervosa but  since the age of 11 i have been underweight usually in the range of 6 stone to 7 1/2 (at most)  and i have had alot of health probs from this and  have always been anaemic.

hey jotracey i think you just discribed nearly all the virgo women i have met.

they ae obsessed with they're silly diet's.

i also know a guy with virgo moon (capricorn sun) he's always going around checking people's food he has a go at anyone if they eat just one chocolate bar even if they're skinny !!!

    and he's quite skinny to

     1. , 2nd or 3rd house, depending on the system.

    2. My Venus, Mars, and Mercury are all in Taurus, and they all aspect my Moon. Venus and Mars in the 5th, Mercury in the 6th. I was a vegetarian for years, but eventually went back to meat eating, in fact you could probably call me a born-again omnivore.

    My moon's in 7H Sagittarius

A lot of times I just get involved in whatever I'm doing and forget to eat unless something happens like I get moody (weepy for no reason, cranky.)  I think I have a reasonably healthy relationship with food - I mean, sometimes it's pleasurable but mostly it's fuel.  But I do like to try lots of different things.  I was raised in a big southern family, but I live in LA and OMG THE CHOICES!!!!!!  *swoon* I figure if you're gonna have to fuel up anyway, it should at least be interesting, no?

I am single and live alone so when I cook it tends to be a half day affair ... after which I don't cook for most of a week.  Oh, and when I have something really tasty in a restaurant?  I will often try to recreate it on my next cooking sprint.  Good stuff!

I like to feed people, too, but somehow I always stuck that with Mars and Venus in Cancer.  If I care about you, I want to make you comfy and at home.  But there's a moon type tie in as well.

In addition to Virgo rising I have 3 planets in that sign plus Saturn in the 6th house. I'm a very picky eater. I'm a workaholic and often get so involved with what I'm doing that I forget to eat (though I've consciously put a stop to doing that to myself).

And I also suffered from an eating disorder in my teens. Unfortunately diet and weight was something my father was obsessed with and he dumped it on me. The worst thing he said to me at one point was, "If you can get down to and keep your weight at 110 pounds you'll look good. That would be the perfect weight for you." Well, all that Virgo in my chart honed in on his use of the word 'perfect'. I ended up losing too much weight, not because I was trying to lose weight but because I was afraid to eat, afraid that I'd gain weight and go over that elusive 'perfect' weight that he threw out there.

I got past all that, I'm happy to say. I've learned to eat healthy and if I want to treat myself to something sweet I do so. I don't deny myself.

hmmmn lets see...2nd house libra pluto conj. 3rd house scorp moon/merc.

I was a vegetarian until I was 23.  Age 14 - 20 I was a strict vegan.  I started eating meat again because I was in a tent in the middle of nowhere and some people who didn't speak English put a plate of meat in front of me and gestured at it.  I was freaking hungry so I ate it and Damn! It was good. I don't really know how I got in that situation.  That was when Pluto was transiting my Neptune.

I love cooking.  Sometimes I get really caught up in making a giant meal and wanting people to like it. It makes me feel very satisfied to lay out an impressive feat of a feast and have people make pleasured eating noises.

My mom and dad both cook and always stressed the importance of knowing how to feed yourself as a basic life skill and enjoying cooking as an art.

Moon in Sag. I love trying new foods, eating out, and cooking. I think about food a LOT, and am VERY SAD Gourmet Magazine is coming to an end..... Many of my friends have worked in the restaurant industry and two of the things we love to do is 1) go to the market and cook/bake dinner together 2) eat at an awesome restaurant we love or think we might love.

I've tended to eat very healthy since my teens but don't care for formal diets - I'll just have small portions. I can make a bar of dark chocolate last a month. Processed foods, soda pop etc. are like poison to me. I've become much more into whole/local/seasonal foods now and I'm currently learning a lot about Persian cuisine - YUM! I could ramble forever about food... Incidentally, my mother never learned how to cook. For years, all the food I ate was from my nanny who was from a different culture - very Sag!
