btw I was inspired by Elsa's post on cultural clashes.

I'd rather have the clash than none at all :)
Saggie Sun, Jupiter in the 9th. Born to travel, adventure, and live my life among people from other countries.
I have traveled around the world, some dangerous parts too. I crave the experience of myself when juxtaposed with a culture that is so different than my own. I live in Canada but was born in the US, have lived in 3 other countries too. If I don't have an experience of travel and adventure, I start feeling a bit withered inside.
Edited: by travel I mean, I have travelled to over 35 countries around the world, lived in 5. By the time I was 13 I had driven across the US and Canada about 5 times (each summer) plus had lived in Europe and travelled across it with my family. Wanderlust was set in early. When I in my mid30's I did an adventure camping trip for 4months across the Middle East and into Asia. Blew my mind. Best experience of my life. the point was to end the wanderlust instead it just got worse!
Yes the bf is from a different country than my own (Australia) but hey I lived there (But met him here lol). Culture's not too different but it goes without saying that I needed a partner who loved movement as much as I did.
I love foreign places and people. I've been fortunate enough to travel. I have been known to avoid dating american guys...although that isn't the case right now. My daughter is bi-racial/bi-cultural. Sagittarius Ascendant with Jupiter in my H2 of values. I've always felt kinda "robbed" that American culture is so "uncultured" IMHO. We are a melting pot and while it can be very cool, it has it's disadvantages. Blue jeans and hamburgers don't make up a culture. I like the cultures with deep roots! Maybe that is my Jupiter in Cap expressing itself.
it has taken me along time to find the right guy for me. I needed a guy who'd had a similar life experience - one who'd lived in multiple countries, one who doesn't want to retire to one place, one who thinks a quick trip to Europe is normal, one who thinks that the world is small and isn't afraid of going anywhere or seeing anything.
I typically used a travel question to weed out potential dating prospects. My reasoning was that if they'd never been anywhere or done things like I'd done, that I'd find them eminently boring. I'm sure to them I was flighty or unable to settle down. They were right! I also had a bit of disdain for any guy who'd never left North America. See I've seen North Amercia - truly SEEN it - driven across about 5 times from east to west, through the STates and Canada, different routes, seen many national parks, etc. But I've also been to Europe, Middle East, South and SE Asia, Australia, Japan, etc.
Because of all the places I've been, I'm pretty comfortable in an airport, in the third world, in navigating taxis, transfers, hotels, food, customs, cultural differences. I am a master at culture translation and saying thank you in about 32 languages. haha. Any guy who can't do the same or who isnt' interested in that would never work for me in the long term!
Trust me, there are guys out there who are like you - just keep focussing on being who you are and the right one will come along!
I went on and on about this for YEAR with my friends. I was really upset about it, thought of myself as a freak...til I realized that I was looking in the wrong places. Most guys are looking to settle down with a family...whereas that wasn't foremost on my mind. I was looking to live in the WORLD, not just one place!
Yes, these guys are out there - thing is they're probably travelling right now -lol! They might be living in Africa haha. So you just have to learn to move in the right circles to find the right guy.
geez this is so true. i live in a major city and am surprised that it feels tedious at times. i came here to be at the center of all things! only to realize there is no center, it is a moving target. (hehe, sagittarius, the archer)
i realize i am just as much to blame for my failed relationships - truth is i get friggin booooorredd! :/ and going into my 30s, i can't pretend anymore. if i'm gonna start drama i better own up to it. (9th house leo)
I really lived my 9th House Moon when I was younger 19>50 - I travelled quite a bit but only around the Mediterranean, where I feel totally at home: Israel, Greece and many of the Islands, Morocco, Spain and the Balearics, France and most precious of all, Italy.
I've lived in Spain, France and Italy all for a year or more, and returned often to these countries. My Moon is Taurus - fixed - so having found places I passionately love, I prefer to get in really deep and return again and again, rather than travel more widely to totally foreign places. I'd be quite happy if I never went anywhere other than Italy and/or the island, ever again
I have SN in Sag along with that H9 Moon. Now I live other parts of my chart: I stay home, but travel a great deal online! NN in Gem ;)
I love Americans, really love them, but it's weird when I realise I don't really know them as a nation. All the Americans I know irl are travellers by definition - not 'group travellers' at that - and I sometimes forget they're a tiny minority of their nation. It's on forums like this that I'm often reminded how different we over here are, from the majority over there :)
I only have NN in Sag. The ninth is empty, split between Aries and Taurus. But DO I love to travel! Oh boy... I've been dreaming for years how I'm gonna live here, and here and here. Not just vacation, I wanna stay there for a year, learn the language (Gem moon) and explore (Aries) the culture.
But then after all this moving around, I'd like to settle in my homeland. (NN in the 4th house)
I've traveled quite a bit and loved Africa the most. I have Neptune and NN in Sag, my sun and mercury are in the 9th house. I used to plan a trip and then lie awake the night before I left, dreading the idea of leaving home (I'm a Cancer!), but once I got on the plane, all my fears evaporated. The money I've spent on travel has been worth every penny, every time.
My Gemini mercury in the 9th trines my moon/jupiter conjunction in my 7th and my Venus - I married a foreigner.
When I was younger, I would take a leave of absence from work in order to travel for a few months. I couldn't imagine doing that now that jobs are scarcer and workers more expendable.
Travelling to me is a choice. Some people spend their money on nice cars and furniture. They insist on living alone or working in a job that requires them to drive a car. I have consistently chosen travel over having nice furniture and a nice car. I have never bought a designer item in my life, I shop on sales. I travel cheaply staying in family run places or budget hotels. I camped across the Middle East and Asia. I am willing to put up with ALOT to see the places I want to see. Also by focussing on travel in the third world, your dime can go very far indeed.
When I lived in Nepal, my monthly cost (I was in one location) was probably about $500 for accommodation, food, etc.
to me the most exciting thing in the world is a dusty road. I don't need alot. I need a hot shower every few days but I don't need fancy at all. Most 'western' people can't tolerate that.
Here's an example of what I have done.
I have family in Sweden. I was in London England on business. I hadn't been to Sweden in 30 years. My flight back to Canada was on Sunday. I had Friday and Saturday free. I knew my accommodation in London was about $200 per night. I knew my stay in Sweden would be free. The flight to Stockholm was $200. Um, so I went to Sweden for 1.5 days! To me that's a no brainer.
When I was in Paris in the fall. There were 6 of us, we rented an apartment. I got the couch. I paid $33 per night plus we had minimal breakfast costs and a few dinners in. I went to the Louvre when it was free. I walked as much as I could.
My whole life is the definition of a Sag! LOL!
I've got Sag/Jupiter plastered all over my Chart!
I work online for a company thats not even in my own country. And its work from home during what ever time that suits me.
Studied in a different country and schooled in a couple of countries. Date foreign men and I'm multi-racial.
And my friends are from all over the world.
Everybody has a backyard or "playground" that they play in. Jupiter and Sagittarius represent the principle of expansion, and I have heard it said that the world is the Sagittarian's playground. It is true. And as I just remarked on another thread, Sagittarians often succeed or find success in a culture or country that is different than the one they were born in.
My 9th House Moon / Sag SN has also led me to have quite a few relationships with foreign men, some quite serious; these include an Arab, an Italian, a Brazilian, an American, and various ships that pass in the night - Swedes, a Greek or two, a Moroccan, a couple of Candians, etc etc. I nearly married the Brazilian, whom I barely knew, and took off to live in Sao Paulo! - he was very very black, too, truly 'other'. But the language barrier was too great. I would have married the Italian, gladly, if it had been possible
Again, this is something which was part of my younger years, and stopped when I got to about 33... since then it's just been Englishmen. I wonder now if it was a SN in Sag thing?
I have Sagittarius ASC and Sun rules my 9th House. Jupiter is well aspected in my chart. I have traveled all over the world and lived in many countries. I work for a company that allows me all the time off that I want; I've also been a student for the last...billion years...and so break up my schedule like that, too. I have dual citizenship, two passports which has been great.
My guy isn't a 'foreigner,' though he was raised in another country than I was and has dated foreigners himself. He has Mars in his 9th House.
Wanderlust: it never stops. Ever. It's in my blood. During my Saturn Return my dad and I went overseas together and visited 3 countries (in Asia) in 6 weeks. He was the best travel partner ever (next to my fiance).
He was almost 79 when we went. I told a woman I worked for (who was in her 60s) and she was so inspired she booked a safari to Africa!
I've met backpacking seniors before too. I've also met backpacking families...it was one of the reasons why I was determined to backpack with my daughter. She is an amazing traveller. I wouldn't hesitate to take her anywehere. She just rolls with it, she just deals with whatever is placed in front of her. I guess she does have Mars in the 9th too (Sagittarius no less) !

I have a strong Sag/9th house/Jupiter presence on my chart. I have many experiences with foreigners. I am currently a foreigner where I live and - paradoxically - I feel very much at home. I also work in a job in international publishing. I cannot escape Jupiter if I tried to!
I remembered, just now, that when I was 8 years, my father's old college friend came to visit us. He was from Japan. He wrote me a letter afterwards and transcribed my name into Japanese characters and translated the meaning. This is just one of many experiences that made me itch to see the wider world.
Do you have wanderlust? Do you glamorize other cultures? Where's your Sag?
