Thank you Elsa *tear.
Me and my girls are safe at home. I'm watching the news with my laptop on my lap. My hubby, mom, dad, and brother all work on Ft. Hood, they are on lockdown, but all safe. I'm shaken up because the Soldier Rediness Center, where the killings happened.....my brother was working there until last week when he was transfered. I'm grateful, but sad for the families of the people who were killed.
Ever since 9/11 I've had nightmares about shit like this happening. I always thought It'd be terrorists, but the shooter was a soldier.
The other day I was going to post on the boards how happy I was. My family and I were eating dinner at Chili's and I looked around and noticed there were a lot more soldiers out than normal and realized that people are starting to come home. They looked happy, drinking, laughing. It reminded me of what this area was like pre-9/11.
The reality though, is that many of these soldiers come home and they are not happy. Many of them commit suicide, kill their wives, kill their kids, feel invincible and speed on their motorcycles until they get in fatal accidents. This place has been somber since 2002. I'm just so sad.
shell, now I am crying because you guys are all right! I am attached to you and your family, plus I appreciate your husband's service!!
The shooter was muslin and reports are he was shouting in Arabic. Is this true?
I don't know, I haven't heard that. So far they say it's an American soldier. That doesn't mean he wasn't muslim though.
Well, apparently he recently converted to the islamic faith, and wasn't happy about having to go back to war.
Well I wonder if this will be considered a terrorist attack.
glad your family is safe, shell.
Shell, so, so very glad you and all your family are safe! - I was watching this on tv, not having a clue I would actually know of someone there. What a terrible tragedy, just so awful!
(((shell)))
(((Shell))) I'm so happy your family is safe.
Ouch! Glad Shell missed that!
I hear he was a psychiatrist too.
((Shell)) Glad you are all safe!

Wow, people are in a weird mood these days. Must be the economy!
It's not just the economy. It's the military too. People go over there, stay too long and come back and it's like people over here don't even know there's a war on.
Here is a radio interview with someone who worked with the guy. He was rooting for whoever shot the soldier at the recruiting office a couple months back and thought people should blow up Times Square.
I couldn't stand to listen to the rest.
Elsa, living around here and hearing chit-chat between soldiers all the time, there are quite a few soldiers that feel the way that Major did. Scary to think that any of them can turn on their own at any minute.
shell, thanks for letting us know. Anyway you turn it, it's horribly sad. I think I'll quit reading for tonight. It's getting to me.
(((shell))) I am glad that you and your loved ones are ok. so sad..
(((shell and fams)))
Awww, Shell. I live right outside an AFB and if something like that happened here, I'd be FREAKING OUT. Have family in the Army and they were stationed at Ft. Hood years ago, I remember going down there as a child and it was a neat place, and Kileen. Glad to hear that you and yours are safe. But all of y'all are in our prayers tonight, or at least my prayers. Just try to take it easy, although I can't imagine how shaken up you are. I just remember how crazy the atmosphere was around here on 09-11 and the months following. Literally everything was on lockdown pretty much, and I do not live on base, but I do live within a mile radius. Just pure insanity.
Soldiers need to take care of themselves.
Good looking out though, Elsa!!!
Shell~
My thoughts and well wishes are with you and yours..glad you are all safe. xxxxxxx
((((shell))))
I'm glad you and your family are safe. I'm really sorry about the other families and friends of the people killed.:(
Something ain't right in the milk. Look at the MOOD (Moon) of the people via the poll. He's campaigning for Godsakes.
((((((shell)))))) I am so glad to hear you are alright... what a scary coincidence about your brother. What a nightmare this whole thing is.
Was impressed this a.m. to read about the cop who stopped him:
An astrologer on one if the lists I follow reports that the shooter tried to decapitate, "the main guy" on the base. Can anyone verify this?
...I can't believe this guy was a Major.
More speculation: The guy may have been taking a drug that the Army administers in preparation for Afghanistan:
http://www.vanityfair.com/online/politics/2009/11/was-nidal-malik-hasan-taking-lariam.html
"In a December 2002 article for Vanity Fair, Maureen Orth wrote about the deadly summer of 2002 at Fort Bragg, when three soldiers stationed at the North Carolina base murdered their wives. Back then, many people blamed an Army-administered anti-malarial drug mefloquine, also known as Lariam, which ...'May cause psychiatric symptoms in a number of patients ranging from anxiety, paranoia and depression to hallucinations and psychotic behavior.'"
I know this can't be the whole explanation, since people seem to be just losing it these days....

From another article, his landlord said: "I cannot comprehend that the enemy was among us," Padilla said, tearing up. "I feel a little guilt that I was basically giving housing to someone who is going to do so much destruction."
So, so very sad. My heart goes out to the families of everyone killed, and to all the people that this guy ever associated with, like this landlord - all of whom I'm sure passionately wish they had never even heard of him, much less crossed paths with this. Horrible.
((shell)) i can't imagine what it must be like out there right now...
this is such an appalling turn of events...
i am amazed at that lady cop. i mean, wow. she must have some serious cardinal somewhere (aries or capricorn, or both, i'd guess...) talk about the right person in the wrong place at the right time. and she's so humble about it, from what i can tell. just doing her job. more arguments for women to get trained to shoot, imo. little person, big impact.
but the soldiers weren't allowed to have guns on base? i don't quite grasp that. I mean, i guess because they're stressed out and young, but we trust them to go into the field with guns, they should at least be able to protect themselves at home, too. i mean, the shooter had no problem bringing a gun to work...
Watched the memorial service today - the soldier who sang "amazing grace", she blew me away, and brought me to tears........
