I *love* little things. Perfection is in the details.
Every Saturday morning my son gets me a cup of coffee at the shop downstairs. I have it with cream or half&half.
At work, after I eat my lunch, I always sip a lemon tea.
On the weekday, I often come home with a small treat for my son, like a piece of chocolate or a pint of ice cream to share.
Sometimes all I need is a looong hot shower to cheer up :)
Coffee, indeed.
(I'm on my third cup as I type this.)
My garden...
The chickens, even though the fosters got out of the box in the basement and made a gihugic mess...
Everyday things I do with the kids.
Baby animal breath...(and their fur/feathers, etc).
What's that old Snoopy saying? "Happiness is a warm puppy". I dunno--it may actually be physiologically impossible to hold anger or upset when snuggling with baby critters (even when they whizz on yah).
Horse breath--baby or not--and the smell of their manes/sweat--is also the bestest aromatherapy ever...
i love this time of lunar month when i can lay in bed just before sleep and watch the moon rise out my bedroom window.
a nice glass of high end bourbon with my best bud ain't too bad either.
I love my daily rituals with the animals around here. Early yesterday morning as I was getting my breakfast, I had a young King Parrot, gorgeous bright red head and beak hanging upside down from my veranda roof, looking in my house telling me he wanted his breakfast. Awwright! Put the bird seed out on the table and the whole family are waiting in their tree right next to table. Then my wallaby sticks her head up right there, hidden in the long grass, so I have a chat to her and tell to keep mowing it down. Then I'm about to sit down with my porridge, 1 of the baby magpies squwarking at the back door, so I feed that mob. Then my Butcher bird "Squeak" does her fabulous swoop, onto the veranda, and I love sitting and talking to her and throwing her dainty morsels of meat which she expertly catches in her big beak. Then the 3 kookaburra family is there perched on the wood pile, fighting it out with the magpies, then the big bush turkey sallies in and chases them all off, and it's on! Then in the evenings when it's dark, the brush tail possums are out and ocme on to my veranda and ask for a feed very politely. They take slices of bread in their paws like little hands and sit there and eat in very small bites. Occasionally a mother will have a really cute button nosed baby who will be a jockey on her back for months. I never get bored with the routine and watching their antics, and I feel so privileged to be accepted by them all now.

I was thinking about this on the way to work this morning. I don't have my earbuds (grrr) so I was reading a magazine and I thought - you know? I haven't done this in a while. It's kind of cool.
Something else that I do that seems like a small thing but brings me great joy: I keep fresh flowers in my house. I've got a flower guy (his name is Pablo) at the Farmers Market, and I get a couple bunches of lilies for about $10. Every weekend, or maybe every other weekend depending on how the lilies fare, I get fresh lilies and put them in a vase and wait for them to open. I've told Pablo that it's part of the therapy for my seasonal depression, with a wink and a smile. But you know what? It really is.
What about you? Do you have little things that you do that bring you big joy? Care to share?
