I was thinking about this on the way to work this morning.  I don't have my earbuds (grrr) so I was reading a magazine and I thought - you know?  I haven't done this in a while. It's kind of cool.

Something else that I do that seems like a small thing but brings me great joy: I keep fresh flowers in my house.  I've got a flower guy (his name is Pablo) at the Farmers Market, and I get a couple bunches of lilies for about $10.  Every weekend, or maybe every other weekend depending on how the lilies fare, I get fresh lilies and put them in a vase and wait for them to open.  I've told Pablo that it's part of the therapy for my seasonal depression, with a wink and a smile.  But you know what?  It really is.

What about you?  Do you have little things that you do that bring you big joy?  Care to share?

I *love* little things. Perfection is in the details.

Every Saturday morning my son gets me a cup of coffee at the shop downstairs. I have it with cream or half&half.

At work, after I eat my lunch, I always sip a lemon tea.

On the weekday, I often come home with a small treat for my son, like a piece of chocolate or a pint of ice cream to share.

Sometimes all I need is a looong hot shower to cheer up :)

Baths, walks, a lunch with my husband or a good friend, going to the movies. All things I did with abandon before having a child that now seem so special to me.

My son is the embodiment of a small thing who brings me joy.

    My garden...

The chickens, even though the fosters got out of the box in the basement and made a gihugic mess...

Everyday things I do with the kids.

Baby animal breath...(and their fur/feathers, etc).

What's that old Snoopy saying? "Happiness is a warm puppy". I dunno--it may actually be physiologically impossible to hold anger or upset when snuggling with baby critters (even when they whizz on yah).

Horse breath--baby or not--and the smell of their manes/sweat--is also the bestest aromatherapy ever...

I love my daily rituals with the animals around here. Early yesterday morning as I was getting my breakfast, I had a young King Parrot, gorgeous bright red head and beak hanging upside down from my veranda roof, looking in my house telling me he wanted his breakfast. Awwright! Put the bird seed out on the table and the whole family are waiting in their tree right next to table. Then my wallaby sticks her head up right there, hidden in the long grass, so I have a chat to her and tell to keep mowing it down. Then I'm about to sit down with my porridge, 1 of the baby magpies squwarking at the back door, so I feed that mob. Then my Butcher bird "Squeak" does her fabulous swoop, onto the veranda, and I love sitting and talking to her and throwing her dainty morsels of meat which she expertly catches in her big beak. Then the 3 kookaburra family is there perched on the wood pile, fighting it out with the magpies, then the big bush turkey sallies in and chases them all off, and it's on! Then in the evenings when it's dark, the brush tail possums are out and ocme on to my veranda and ask for a feed very politely. They take slices of bread in their paws like little hands and sit there and eat in very small bites. Occasionally a mother will have a really cute button nosed baby who will be a jockey on her back for months. I never get bored with the routine and watching their antics, and I feel so privileged to be accepted by them all now.

@Tam: yes, the birds at Lowe's & Home Depot!!

And yes, orchids reblooming again. I have 2 that have popped and one ready to go. Another I rescued for $2 that should come back at some point. I used to be intimidated by them.

Good smelling fabric softener and cleaning products.

    Free stuff and winning things.

Office supplies and gorgeous stationery, boxes; multicolored gel pens. Wrapping paper and cards. Goody bags and favors!

My daughter is a small thing that brings me joy.

Horses, riding them, the smell of them bring me immense joy.

    Coffee

    Houseplants (I don't have a yard)

    Road trips

Seeing the moon and stars at night

A meal well cooked and eaten

    Hiking in the woods

Winter misting rain that kisses my face and doesn't leave me wet after walking the dog

I love when my dog gets excited and rubs her face against my legs

Thick dense fog that comes in the middle of the night, perfect for a walk.

Oh, I used to love getting fresh flowers every week at the Farmer's Market! I always had fresh flowers in my house. Now that I've relocated and living with family, I haven't had the opportunity to do that.
