The Growing Black Market

My dryer broke and I went straight to craigslist to hire someone to fixed it. My perception (right or wrong) is that I will get a better deal and as I do this more and more, I wonder how legitimate business is to compete with the unemployed, on unemployment working without having to shoulder the (growing) tax burden.

    Your thoughts?

Well, fact is...it's probably a good plan.  And in a way, really working with the Change (note the caps) that is going on right now.  People are supposed to become more community minded, as opposed to self-exhaltation.  This clearly demonstrates how it works.  Both parties benefit.  You are helping some poor fellah who could use the cash, and you're benefitting by getting a really good deal and likely some really personable help (I always prefer to work with people I can smile to, rather than someone who reminds me of a robot).

I've been going through craigslist for any number of things as well.  It's like the modern-day equivalent of a forum.

There's a couple of spooky bills in Congress right now that would regulate to death farmers markets, roadside stands, small farms, etc.

It's ostensibly "for the children"  H.R. 875, The Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009

    http://www.washingtonwatch.com/bills/show/111_HR_875.html

Even having an "honor table" of veggies in your front yard for sale would become illegal if you didn't register with the gov't and abide by all the paperwork and fees.

So if this becomes law, then if I wanted to make my own soap or sauerkraut & sell it, if the economy was really bad,  (which I've learned to do recently) it would be a black market activity.

    There's more about it here

i would tend to agree that this could be a better deal...up here in BC you add tax on top of most transactions, so you'd save that. plus you are helping a fellow person get work where they may not be otherwise.

the beer i brewed myself last month is now drinkable and it is pretty light (i made a wheat beer) so it doesn't get me sloshed or anything, and i feel better the next day. it works out to $0.50 per 500mL bottle as opposed to $2.50 or whatever it is...

i've also been asked by some of my classmates at college to make them lunches to sell to them. i have less than zero time for that, but maybe next year.

    Pretty, huh?

It's the symbol for irradiated food now, which doesn't have to say it is irradiated. It can say pasteurized instead haha.

I have a Virgo stellium and I have Virgo Ceres conj. Virgo Uranus opp. Pisces Chiron, square Mars Asc. All this weird gov't food regulation is creeping me out.

I have plans to create a virtual underground railroad for food bartering outside the system if need be LOL. Don't screw with the people's food, 'Mkay? haha

wow. jilly sometimes i feel like the single worst thing we are doing to ourselves as human beings is alienating ourselves from our food supply. hence i am starting my own revolution by brewing my own beer and baking my own bread.

I would TOTALLY support you on the virtual underground railroad. except with me being in canada i may just need to take tips from you...go Virgo power!

This is all seriously pissing me off LOL! Grrr. I just have a really bad feeling about the future regarding this stuff.

It can be like craigslist kashmiri -- all over the place.

How are you doing on hops? I heard there is a shortage. BC is a great place to grow them though.

Yes, it's possible you local stores will be shut down and you will have to get more and more goods off the black market (stolen good / your money fueling crime and violent gangs).

You thought the mafia was bad?  ::laughs::

Yep you're in a great location. I'm going to try to grow 1 vine this year but I bet the japanese beetles are going to get it.

Looks like there is an organic brewery/hops yard in BC http://www.crannogales.com/
