The soldier's son had two friends KIA in 2 weeks. We're just stunned.

"I don't know what that is like," I said. "It's not happened to me, I don't know what that does."

"It teaches you not to become friendly with people, that's what."

It's so chilling but I am sure it's true.

My condolences, with lots of hugs.

Ughhh.  After just going through a deployment with a dear friend (whom I may/may not have lost his friendship--he's "war scarred" and just very, very, distant...) I can honestly say that my entire views are changed towards this war.  I feel deeply for him.  The things these people go through.  Especially those out in the fields.  I can't imagine.  But I know what it's like to have your troop come home and still seem worlds away.  In a way I feel like I've lost my friend.  I can identify with that part.  But the stress of battle and the shutting off of the emotions to survive... That's very sad.  Heartbreaking.  My prayers go out to the soldier's son, and his comrades.

Well it's been eye opening, I'll tell you. The soldier thinks he is going to wind up losing many more in his class. Try to put that in your head and smoke it.

I don't know how people bear it, having a loved one away at war.  I am quite certain that I would have to be on some kind of medication.  So sorry for their terrible losses....

 My Dad was a war veteran, and he just never spoke about it - he just would say he didn't want to remember any of it.  I found out from my mother that he also lost buddies.  But I never got any details - but I am quite certain he saw some pretty bad stuff....
