What do you consider a stellium?

I've read 3 planets in a sign, or 3 planets in a particular house.  Or 3 planets conjunct each other? What?  Hahah, I'm confused.  Anyone who cares to clarify, please do.  It'd be greatly appreciated.

Also, would you consider the ascendant (although it's an angle and not a planet) part of a stellium?  Cause if so, that'd give me a Sagittarius stellium.  I think.

Sagittarius rising at 22 deg.
Saturn (in Sagittarius 12th house conjunct Asc and Uranus) at 22 deg.
Uranus (in Sagittarius 1st house conjunct Asc and Saturn) at 25 deg.

Not to mention I have Sun in Sagittarius at 9 degrees in the 12th house.

If you've got a stellium, do you feel like you feel or project this energy much more than other planets within your birth chart?  Where is your stellium?

Thanks y'all! :)

As a total amateur, I'd say those are all valid definitions.  But they mean different things.

Stellium by conjunction--the planets are emphasized.  To the extent the planets reinforce each other, the signs (assuming the planets are conjunct out of sign) gets a slight bump from hosting amped-up planets.  So much conjunction going on means you'll have to work a little to define them, and keep them from mushing together.  You'll have to consciously remind yourself "oh, I have Saturn AND Uranus at work here".  But it shouldn't be too hard or tricky; consult an astrologer.  I personally don't consider conjunctions an automatic boon, though I believe they are much easier than an opposition or square.

To take your info as example--maybe you have an authority figure (Saturn) who gives you surprise (Uranus) assignments, which hampers your travels plans (Sadge Sadge Sadge).  You could remind yourself that Saturn and Uranus are merging here, and plan (Saturn) to do your work ahead of time so you are prepared for the surprises, and you can vacation.  Can't claim this has anything to do with your life situation, but you get the idea.

Stellium by sign--the sign is emphasized, and the planets keep to themselves.  Assuming the planets are not conjunct, you have it easy because you don't have to work to define them, they already have good boundaries due to distance.  Thus, the different planets share a single simple theme.  E.g., your identity (Sun) doesn't get lost in the Saturn-Uranus thing, so you are open to ideas and philosophies you could use to better understand or deal with that.

Stellium by house--similar to stellium by sign.

Stellium by any two, or all three--strap in!

Hmm, thanks for that, Scorp in a suit.  I guess that means I've also got a Scorpio stellium because I have Mars, Pluto, and Mercury all in Scorpio.  Mars at 5 deg, Pluto at 6 deg (both in house 11) but Mercury is in house 12.  But since there are 3, then that's a stellium?  Haha then does that mean I have a 1st house stellium since I have 3 planets there, too? Venus, Neptune, Uranus.  Venus at 5 deg Cap, Neptune 6 deg Cap and I already talked about Uranus (widely conjunct my Venus, too...) earlier.

It's just weird trying to understand it all.  But you did clarify.  And for the win I hardly ever took vacation for fear (Saturn) of leaving my work unfinished.  But surprisingly (Uranus) my bosses (Saturn) suggested that I had done a good enough job and deserved to take a few days off.  Haha, Jupiter ruled chart indeed.  Even is Saturn is literally right on top of my ascendant.  Making me a lot more Capricorn appearing, than Sagittarius at times... But once you get to know me, you'll see :)  I can have fun and be serious.  It also gives off a strong Aquarian vibe I think.  Being that Aquarius is ruled by Uranus (and traditionally Saturn?)  but I have both of those planets conjunct my ascendant and each other.  I'm a non conformist, but I'm nice (Venus 1st house) about it and don't like to ruffle too many feathers.  Just shake things up a bit hahaha.

As for myself... the only planet that I'm sure is outside of any stellium is my moon.  And I don't get it.  Maybe having all my other planets in 1, 2, or even 3 kinds of stellia deafens out my moon.

...And for that matter, I guess a 12th house stellium too.  With 3 planets (Sun, Saturn, Mercury) all calling the 12th house home...

Hmm... Yeah.  My moon is in Taurus in my 5th house.  It opposes my Mars/Pluto conjunction though.  Both by sign and house.  But it's in the 5th house all by its lonesome.  In good aspect to my Venus and Neptune conjunction (which sextile my Mars and Pluto) hahah.  I'm a big ball of whatever I want to be, and nothing at all.  It confuses me :)  But that's alright haha.

Ro--yep, three's a stellium (and a crowd).  Some people require more if the Sun, Mercury and Venus are involved, because they are always pretty close to each other.  But I say an aspect is an aspect, and that's just a perk of being the Sun (amirite, Leos of the world?)

"I had done a good enough job and deserved to take a few days off"

Looks like you're already ahead of the game! *doffs cap*

Haha but I'm a self proclaimed workaholic.  Seriously it's kind of sad.  But funny because I am "so young" at 22.  I love to work.  It's nearly impossible to make me take time off and if I do decide to take time off I'm thinking of when I will get back to work.  Has to be that Saturn influence.  It'll pay off someday, I know it :)  Thank you for all of your answers!

As an amateur, I would consider a stellium planets that are conjunct.  I have my 10th house moon-mars-venus all in Pisces and conjunct so to me this is a stellium.  I also have 3 planets in Sagittarius, jupiter-uranus and neptune, in the 6th house but only jupiter and uranus are conjunct so I don't consider this a stellium... A lot of Sadge but not a stellium.  I don't think it matters much if the stellium planets are all in the same house if it's a close conjunction between the planets.  I'd say that the stellium affects both houses then...

Hope this helps!

Yes, Sweethiez that does help some.  I'm just trying to figure out what it really is since clearly, there are so many definitions.

According to Parkers' Encyclopedia of Astrology, it's 3 or more planets in any sign or house and may or may not be conjunct.

Buuuuut...
I consider my sun-Merc in Leo conjunct Saturn in Virgo a stellium, although in Placidus the first two are in 2 and Saturn's in 3 (with Equal houses, they're all in 2).  They're eight degrees apart, so I can't really seperate their function.  I feel them all together, so it's a stellium to me.  *smiles*

Haha sounds like a stellium to me SaDiablo.  See that definition provided?  It makes it confusing! To be conjunct, or not to be conjunct, that is the question!?

Ah, whatever :)

Ro - you have an interesting chart. I'm a Sag AND a 6th House stellium (all my sag planets are in the 6th). 5 planets in sag and the 6th house...you tell me how crazy THAT is. Talk about a confused workaholic.

Oh, the definition in Parkers' is very clear!  Sorry about that, I typed it in shorthand.  There's a paragraph-long definition.

What they say is that it doesn't have to be conjunct, just having them in the same house or sign is enough for a stellium.  Having them conjunct just ups the intensity factor, and multiple conjunctions can be more stressful than a regular ol' conjunction.

Donna Cunningham just wrote a piece about stelliums that's very good.  Sad, because she writes about a friend who died, but good.

Hmmm, I'm still finding this a bit confusing.  And I'm not sure if the ascendant would count?  Anyway, this is an excellent site: http://www.therealastrology.com/HTML/FAQS/AspectPatterns.html

I have 3 in Scorpio, 3 in Virgo and if my ascendant counts, 3 in Pisces.  (8th, 7th and 1st houses respectively)

Oh and thanks for that link Toomuchpluto, Donna has an interesting way of looking at things.  With those stelliums, I have 7 empty houses and apparently funneling my energies into those ones already listed.  Now I'll have to go and read up on what those houses stand for.

No problem snapdragon. I have 5 in second and moon and jupiter plus several asteroids in pisces in the 5th. I am also on a quest to figure it all out my self. add in my T Square and I need many answers as I try to start over post Pluto thru the Sag stellium in the second.

Yes, I was just going over my daughter's with her--she has five in her 12th (Aquarius).  She might have a kite as well--would have to verify the degrees or whatever I guess.

According to that site I linked, it's 3 trines, an opposition and two sextiles.

Accck!  I'm having a meltdown!  She's got too many jammed in there, I can't tell what's what!  A kite starts out as a Grand Trine, but she's got 3 or 4 trines to her Mars---crap, I should link it, but I don't know how, and I need to get off the computer.  I keep thinking one will cancel out the others, but it's not working

Okay, I think I've narrowed it down--Pluto at the top, Mars and *Jupiter/Uranus* are the sides and Moon is the bottom.

I have always understood a stellium to USUALLY be planets, not necessarily conjunct (although the conjunction would add particular intensity/emphasis) in the same sign AND house. That's the definition I've worked with anyway. But now that I think of it, I would also consider a bunch of planets pretty close together a stellium even if it spanned more than one house. A traffic jam's a traffic jam :).

I never considered my Sun to be part of mine as it is in 9th and some distance from the other Gemini planets, but maybe it would be by the Parker definition? Or maybe this would constitute two stelliums operating simultaneously? That doesn't feel right to me, it is in a different house and several degrees from Venus at 16Gem- it's just not part of that energy. The 8th planets are like their own little clique. I don't think the Gemini part of the stellium can be separated from the 8th house part in my case- the kids in 8th are having their own little keg party and they didn't invite Sun.

Personally, I count planets and Chiron but not Nodes or asteroids, and not an angle (ASC, IC, DES, or MC).

When people speak of "quadruple" or "sextuple" or some such thing, my understanding is that they're talking about stelliums. Referring to "being a double" or "being a triple" should indicate the person is speaking of their Sun, Moon, and ASC (the ascendant being of considerable importance in astrology, traditionally)--specifically.

Right Snap dragon I forgot the sextiles. In my case its moon/jupiter trine saturn, Uranus/ascendant, (Grand water Trine) and sextile venus.

venus is also opposed by saturn and squared by Pluto add in the Saturn square to pluto and you get a t square.

Mars/neptune in Sag. trines MC in Leo & Chiron in Aries Trines sun/Merc. in sag.

*Sighs*  SaDiablo is correct!!

Stellium is 3-planets (or more) in a Sign..... 3+ Planets in a HOUSE is not a Stellium. Mathmatical-calcalated points (ascendant , part of fortune , etc. ) are not counted either. As far as the asteroids..... feel free to use your best judgement , I personnally would count only Chiron but that's my opinion. Also the newer Planetoids (Quaoar , Sedna , etc. ) doesn't count either..... but only until the astonomical community comes up with theirtechnical info.

@SaDiablo..... that's another book for my growing collection!!

<h3>Stellium</h3>

Three or more planets are withing a few degrees, in the same sign. This is more rare than even a conjunction and is more significant, the more planets together, especially outer ones marks an important time of change.

In a birth chart, it shows an very active area in the chart for the person. This house is a major focus.

http://astrology.about.com/od/astrologyglossary/g/stellium.htm

<div id="articlebody">

Definition:

A stellium is a multiple conjunction of planets. It's a close cluster of three or more planets in one sign and/or house. The planets are clumped together (within 0 to 5 degrees). This puts an energetic emphasis in the sign and house where it is concentrated.

This is something that stands out, when looking at a chart. A stellium in a birth chart is a special point of reference, and indicates the major themes of the chart.

http://www.elsaelsa.com/astrology/2010/09/12/what-does-a-stellium-mean/

A stellium is what we call it when a person has three or more planets in the same sign. Some of the more finicky astrologers only consider it a stellium if the planets are conjunct (that’s within 10 degrees from each other.) In general though, it is accepted as a stellium as long as they are all in the same sign.

According to Elsa's definition, I have a Scorpio stellium in my 5th house,it includes Uranus,Sun,Mars,Mercury or if you only count the planet's that are conjunct in the same sign then it would be only Sun-Mars-Mercury conjunct one another in the same sign because Uranus isn't conjunct my Sun, it's just in the same house and sign.  Either way sun-mars-mercury are all opposite jupiter Rx in Taurus which I've been told is also significant.

This is really helpful.   I think I've finally figured out that my daughter has a Gemini Stellium by sign, not by conjunction.  Two of the planets are very tightly conjunct (Jupiter and Mercury) by less than a degree but Saturn is too wide to be conjunct the other 2. Since Saturn is still in Gemini, it still qualifies as a stellium.

So Cool!
