So I was reading about the reasons why Rosie O'Donnel  talkshow on OWN failed.  I've always found her really something.  About 15 years ago, she was a kind of America's Sweetheart, a talk-show darling dubbed the "Queen of Nice".  According to the article her talk show ran for 6 years and she created a 100-million dollar empire. 

Go forward a few years, she becomes more known for her outbursts, feuding with Donald Trump, arguing with Elizabeth Hasselbeck on The View, etc.  I find it intriguing how she was able to portray herself as being a real sweetheart for such a long time before her other side came out.  Especially in a talk-show format.  She kind of reminds me of Tom Cruise, who was a reigning heartthrob for a good 20 years before his coach-jumping, combative side came out.  Both celebrities maintined "golden" images for long periods of time before having them tarnished.

What do you think is going on?  Is it something in her transits or chart?  Or it is the nature of celebrity that's changed.  Were celebrities like Rosie and Tom Cruise able to maintain a carefully crafted images by keeping their fans at a distance?  Did this all come down when they tried to adapt to reality tv/tabloid culture?

Might I add, that I remember Tom Cruise's reputation taking a huge hit when he started dating Katie Holmes.  I remember hearing that things got out of hand when he was trying to convince the world that his Brangelina-like couple with Katie Holmes was real.

I remember girls swooning over Tom Cruise in the 80s and 90s.

It was around the 2005 'couch' incident on Oprah that ruined his image. Man, did he look desperate and/or crazy! LOL.

As for both Rosie and Tom, I think you can't really hide your true personality forever. Sooner or later it comes out. 

These re just people, portrayed in varying lights as the mood and market demands, depending on the needs of Big Media.

I'm sure she's a fine person but none of it's real.

Both are Cardinal Suns. I wonder if the Pluto transit may have influenced them? Or they could just be showing their true personalities.

My uncle met Tom Cruise during the filming of "Top Gun" and said the Tom was way over the top with his egotistical behaviors. Not surprised here.

Read_em_and_weep, Tom Cruise has a Moon in Leo, that's why he can have quite the ego at times! 

Read_em_and_weep, I'm amazed that his arrogance was really kept under wraps (for so long) if it was showing while he filmed Top Gun.  He was one of the world's biggest movie stars from the time that movie was filmed right until the couch jumping incident.

My uncle is a totally down-to-earth Virgo Sun with an Aries Moon. He is also a Vietnam Veteran and is the type who can laugh at himself... He told me the story of meeting Tom and it really reinforced the gut-level feelings I'd had about Mr. Cruise.

Leo moon sounds like a perfect match for his ego, yep.

I'm not sure I believe the media when it comes to reports on celebrities. It's a dollar making game, printing the latest trashy smutty story on the latest celeb in the spotlight. My 12th house Sun cringes at the thought of such a violation of privacy... I'd prefer being anonymously rich over being famous and rich!

Sadly Scientology feeds that ego and megalomania. I think Tom might have a kind of Christ complex.

I'm pretty certain there was some industry gossip on why Rosie O'Donnell hasn't been signed for any further big budget movies after A League of Their Own (I think she had been already signed for Sleepless In Seattle by the time she wrapped that movie).

Same for Tom Cruise. Read_em_and_weep's uncle obviously isn't the only person with Tom Cruise story. I guess he is over the top even by the Hollywood standards.

Sometimes a person's management changes and they are not so covered. Things then can come out because they are free to express and don't have the same great management that built their career.  I would say in Tom Cruises case he must  have had different PR people who did not keep him on a short leash. Could be true with Rosie too but I know that sooner or later they are going to show their true selves. Elvis even changed and got some strange press later in his career.

No one can hide forever but once they get super popular mistakes start to happen, it seems. They have so many "yes people" around them they start to get a bit out of line.

Yes Annalisa, Tom Cruise's management (or at least PR) changed sometime around the time of the "Couch Jumping" incident.  I guess we have to give them major kudos for keeping his true personality under wraps for so many years.

Mel Gibson is another example too.  I've heard that he experienced a jupiter period for most of his adult life and never had to answer for anything until it went away.

It is easy to lose your grip when surrounded by sycophants .

HAHAHAHAHA!  And I should add I think she could play Fred Flintstone in another movie--though I sure as hell wouldn't see ANYTHING with her in it...though I do own Disney's Tarzan.  At least I don't have to actually SEE her in that. 

She always came across as bitter and bitchy.

It looked to me like others have said - both Rosie and Tom were hiding (or had help shaping them or hiding them) their true selves. Is this the shadow side of their signs, as Elsa refers to? It seems they both operate from shadow sides but I feel like the real deal is good that's in there. They just can't tap it for whatever reasons.

I was heavily involved with the Actor for exactly the couple of years that his career hit the big time - Oscar nominations, BAFTAS, big Hollywood movie contract and mega fame outside the 'arty' circles he'd appealed to before

It changed him - and hsi values - completely: he turned into 'someone else'. He has a Leo Asc btw!
